Reinhoud Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 Gents, I'm after a new fuel tap for my GS1000, OEM = $$$$$$$$$$ I found an aftermarket one, but it's pretty cheap, I don't trust that too much. https://www.Eblag.com/itm/Fuel-Valve-Petcock-Assembly-For-Suzuki-GS550-GS750-EC-GS850G-GS1000G-44300-45011/263572018743?_trkparms=aid%3D555021%26algo%3DPL.SIMRVI%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20200603053518%26meid%3D1ce73ada46b4435092324ba005e1ce6a%26pid%3D101112%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D8%26mehot%3Dag%26sd%3D373075850159%26itm%3D263572018743%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2563228%26algv%3DSimplRVIAMLv5WebWithPLRVIOnTopCombiner&_trksid=p2563228.c101112.m1982 Anyone who has experience with aftermarket fuel taps? I also found one for a GS1000G, but that doesn't fit mine, I moved my tap in between the head and the carbies. Thanks Quote
Dezza Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 I use a pattern fuel tap on an ancient non-Suzuki 2 stroke runabout and it's great. Fits well, good quality and doesn't leak, and looks the same as OEM. All for something like 7-99 brand new from Thailand or Indonesia (can't remember which). Quote
Reinhoud Posted June 16, 2020 Author Posted June 16, 2020 Am I correct that a pattern fuel tap is a tap without the vacuum thingy? If not, what is it than? I had the vacuum thingy on mine disabled already. Do you have a partnumber or brand? All I can find is the one type aftermarket with vacuum. Quote

Reinhoud Posted June 16, 2020 Author Posted June 16, 2020 I ordered a cheap one, found one "close" to home. I read different reviews about them, we'll see. Can't go wrong for $26. It's more the hassle of putting it on, fragile stuff and chance of damaging tank 1 Quote
Dezza Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 No, 'pattern' in an automotive parts context just means a replica of the OEM item. And as we all know pattern parts can vary widely in quality from 'total shit, waste of money, what's the point of making something that is useless' to 'better than OEM.' The tap I used was for a completely different bike. I just answered the OP on experience with aftermarket taps per se Quote

Took the rubber thingy with piston out, replaced that with rubber, and put a bolt in one of the holes, if I remember correctly.. Edited June 24, 2020 by Reinhoud typo 1 Quote
Reinhoud Posted June 22, 2020 Author Posted June 22, 2020 The tap came in today, it's actually not a bad tap. I made from 2 taps 1, it's not leaking anymore 2 Quote

It works like a normal tap, just without the vacuum. I must say, like a normal tap if you do it properly, mine drips when on the off postion... Edited June 24, 2020 by Reinhoud 1 Quote

No, more correct to say - 'like a knackered tap with a fubar'd washer - it drips when off.' A good tap with a good seal don't drip - eg. no Pingle i've had / used has ever dripped . . . . . . . . leaked at the tank joint - yes, dripped no! LOL! 1 Quote
