davemfox Posted February 22, 2020 Posted February 22, 2020 I've an issue with my throttle cables. I have stripped my carbs down to clean them and have mounted them back on the bike, however the throttle cables don't fit. I've replaced both of them. One is a genuine Suzuki item and one is a pattern part. I am about 5 mm short of the cable sitting in the grip on the bars. Any ideas? Just out of interest I'd be interested to hear what people think on which cable goes where. Thanks, Dave Quote
NorthernBloke Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 Have you re compared the "new" cables to your original ones to see if one is 5 mm shorter as patter cables can differ slightly from genuine ones? Also the cables generally have no slack in them at all so its always tight to put them back on. When I did mine I connected the carb ends first and had all adjusters slackened off as far as they will go, I then connected the bottom cable at the throttle end and then prized the top cable into its slot and hole with a thin screwdriver. 1 Quote
davemfox Posted March 1, 2020 Author Posted March 1, 2020 Unfortunately no I didn't! Having looked at this again, I think the pattern part might be a bit shorter so I managed to get a deal on a new Suzuki cable... Dave Quote
davemfox Posted March 16, 2020 Author Posted March 16, 2020 I know the answer to this is probably no, but I'm going to ask anyway! Is there a way of changing the throttle cable end on the carb without having to take the airbox off and the carbs off the engine? Dave Quote

Dezza Posted March 17, 2020 Posted March 17, 2020 In my experience, when it comes to removing and re-fitting throttle cables it helps to have a pair of long nosed pliers, one of those small extendable magnet pen thingies, a strong grip to hold the spring loaded mechanism open and fingers like those of ET. 2 Quote
davemfox Posted March 17, 2020 Author Posted March 17, 2020 Lol thanks - yeah I had my hands in there last night and you have to have some weird shaped fingers! I was wondering if someone had figured out a way of jabbing a thin rod in or a specific sized socket that could hold the mechanism in the open position. Dave Quote
wombat258 Posted March 17, 2020 Posted March 17, 2020 +1 for Dezza's response. I also find it helps to pre-bend the inner cable to get it to loop around the drum. Quote
davemfox Posted April 19, 2020 Author Posted April 19, 2020 Ok removed the carbs and refitted with genuine Suzuki throttle cables and all appears to be good. Didn't take too long to whip the carbs off and have them back on at all this time. Hairdrier works a treat Dave 1 Quote
