Grangran Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 Hi all, I've purchased delkevic exhausts for my 1991 GSXR1100m. In the process of fitting and I cannot get the link pipes to tighten to the mid section exhaust when clamping them. The clamps wont ratchet up anymore and with everything fitted the link pipes are still loose, it's like the steel on the mid section wont squeeze up and clamp, what am I missing here? Its driving me round the bend! There were no instructions with the kit and I'm using all the supplied parts, this was meant only meant to be a 30 min job and I'm screwed already. Appreciate any help Cheers Liam Quote
Blubber Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 Can it be you are missing some gaskets? Long graphite bushes in this case... To go inside the collector... Just A guess...No experience with this brand Quote
bluedog59 Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 I'd go back to the supplier if it's new. Failing any joy there, you can make up thin shim sleeves using a coke can ( other drinks cans are available ). Cut strips that are deep enough to cover the full length of the joint and long enough to go round the pipe with no overlap. A decent pair of scissors will cut it and maybe be use a little exhaust sealant to help it. Quote

I'd use a Monster drink can, you'd get much more up and go, and you get more can and it's not as sticky as red bull But yes as @Blubbersays, it sounds like your missing a gasket sleeve to go between the down pipes and link pipe. Askamaskinservice Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 You got any pictures of it? What partnr or you got a link to the downpipe? //Hasse. Quote
Grangran Posted July 2, 2019 Author Posted July 2, 2019 Thanks for the replies, attached photos if they help. The problem is clamping the link pipe to the the mid section, the clamp is tightened as much as possible but the link pipe is still loose. Quote
Askamaskinservice Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 Isn't the midpipe supposed to be slotted. You cant clamp down if you got nowhere for the midpipe to move. //Hasse. 1 Quote
Grangran Posted July 2, 2019 Author Posted July 2, 2019 Mid pipe is slotted although the picture doesn't show it too well. The slots on there are pretty tightly squeezed up though. Maybe that's the issue, there isn't enough flex in the mid pipe for the clamp to do anything? Quote
Grangran Posted July 3, 2019 Author Posted July 3, 2019 Lol, yeah pretty sure it's the right way round, I think I'm gonna try opening the slots up on the collector and see if that makes a difference, hopefully it will allow better movement when clamping. Have to say Delkevic have been very responsive and very helpful, a couple of free stainless clamps coming my way as well. Still open to any suggestions?. Hopefully I'll get it sorted on the next attempt. Cheers Liam Quote
bluedog59 Posted July 3, 2019 Posted July 3, 2019 A couple of stainless clamps aren't much use if it doesn't fit. I'd send it back before you start modding it otherwise they could wriggle out of a replacement when it still doesn't fit. You shouldn't have to mod a new, replacement item to make it fit. Quote
Grangran Posted July 3, 2019 Author Posted July 3, 2019 Yeah cool, that's actually a good point, maybe I'm being a bit too eager. I'll, speak to the manufacturer again in the morning. Cheers Liam Quote
