martyngsxr Posted May 6, 2019 Posted May 6, 2019 Slowly getting there on the project bike but someone has rounded of the head on the pad pin going to try mole grips later if that fails anyone got any suggestions Quote
Jaydee Posted May 6, 2019 Posted May 6, 2019 Have you tried splitting the caliper? Pins usually left sticking out of one half which give you the room to wiggle out them with vice grips. Quote
banoffee Posted May 6, 2019 Posted May 6, 2019 Recessed hex cap head? I've had great results with these, every time... Failing that, whack a torx / star bit in there. Or if it's a rounded off bolt then these... Quote
Allspeeds Posted May 6, 2019 Posted May 6, 2019 Jaydee suggestion is a good way to get hem out without damage to calipers then replace pins but if you like to play in the garage a lot buying a set of exstractors is an easyer way and always handy to have I use mine weekly in the workshop triumph calipers pins are made of cheese! martyngsxr Posted May 7, 2019 Author Posted May 7, 2019 Well I'm fucked split the caliper vice grips didn't even touch it that's even using heat so had what I thought was a good idea cut a thread on the shaft and locked 2 nuts together all that did was sheared what was left of the pin Quote
Crass Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 Personally I'd still go for hammering a sacrificial star socket bit into it and unscrewing it Quote
TLRS Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 Can you drill a small hole behind the other end, then knock it out with a small nail or summat? Quote
martyngsxr Posted May 7, 2019 Author Posted May 7, 2019 No on the 4 pots the pad pin is threaded not just a simple pin Quote
