I've always used Threebond 1207B liquid gasket black. (y)

Never had a problem with it, you only need a very thin smear on the matting surfaces, no not put it on any of the bearing surfaces.

The good thing with it, you don't get/find any of it in the oil pick up when you do the next oil change, ;) well that's as long as you don't put it on like tooth past xD

Very light coat of blue Hylomar has been my go to.

Very first time i used it a bit too much and it blocked the trans bearing oil passages :D thank god I had made some other error in the rebuild and had to take the cases apart before starting it up.. had  the chance to spot my noobie error
