nickyboy.4 Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 Could I use this size on my 1100et or will the change in profile make that much difference? Quote
Jonboy Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 Should be fine, wasnt a 130/90 the standard size? So the '80' refers to the aspect ratio which means it is 80% of the 130 which = 104. vs the original which is '90' = 117. So the bike may sit a little lower, maybe 1/2 inch or so. Dont beleive this will affect handling, 1 Quote
ibrakeformoose Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 A 140/80 would work better surely.. Quote
nickyboy.4 Posted February 16, 2019 Author Posted February 16, 2019 Just happen to have a brand new Metzeler in my shed which didn't get fitted to a triumph a couple of months ago so was hoping to use that and save pennies Quote
ibrakeformoose Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 No worries, I'm the same.. tend to store and forget though!! Quote
nickyboy.4 Posted February 16, 2019 Author Posted February 16, 2019 (edited) And should these have tubes in i'm guessing yes because the old one has? Edited February 16, 2019 by nickyboy.4 Bad Spelling Quote
Fazz711 Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 Yes Inner tube is dependent on the wheels not the tyre type. Quote
nickyboy.4 Posted February 16, 2019 Author Posted February 16, 2019 Ah right you learn something new every day, i thought because the wheels are cast, they are always tubeless but obviously not. thanks Quote
Fazz711 Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 Early cast wheels are all tubed. I think one of the first tubeless was first gsxr. Not 100%sure on that but do know GS and GSX are tubed. We once ran a 130/70 on a gs1100 shaft but that didn't go well as the tube shredded causing major blow out. Not sure if it was the miss match of tyre or a faulty tube. They were on for only a few miles. Changed the tyre for a correct size one to be on the safe side as it was my wife's bike. Quote
nickyboy.4 Posted February 16, 2019 Author Posted February 16, 2019 Now that's got me worried, last time i changed my own tyre on an old xs750 i went through 3 tubes before i worked out how not to puncture them! Quote
ral Posted February 21, 2019 Posted February 21, 2019 So are you inflating tubes slightly when fitting?? Quote
nickyboy.4 Posted February 21, 2019 Author Posted February 21, 2019 To be honest it's just a blur now, combination of rubbish kit, rubbish technique and lack of patience Quote

My 85 1150 (GSX 1100EFE) has tubeless. The rims have the word "tubeless" cast into them. my old 83 used tubes. The tubeless wheels will have a larger hole for a bolt in or squeeze in type of valve stem. 1 Quote
Fazz711 Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 Sorry. Forgot the EFE had tube less. Gs and GSX ET are definetly tubed. Quote
