Evoluzione Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 Scabby Slabby 1100 thrown up another error !!!! The petrol tank is rusty in side to a point it has tiny pinholes underneath where it sits attop the air filter,is this fixable or scrap ? Quote
no class Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 seen the "hump" cut out and a flat plate welded in place.....gave the tank more fuel capacity as the bike was used for a cross country race NYC to LA . I am sure it can be repaired as long as there is no rot in the tank seam . Quote
Evoluzione Posted December 21, 2018 Author Posted December 21, 2018 Thanks for the reply, Seams are good but really looking for a temp fix so I could put fuel in it as I need to sell the bike and I assume the new owner would source a good secondhand tank Quote
no class Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 then a tank sealer/epoxy is your only choice Quote
Evoluzione Posted December 21, 2018 Author Posted December 21, 2018 Ok thanks, So is it a good idea to remove the rust first or does the tank sealer do the job Quote
no class Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 tank sealer kit has the acid / etch pre-epoxy application ……..pretty straight forward to use . it will seal up pin holes Quote
Evoluzione Posted December 21, 2018 Author Posted December 21, 2018 Thanks on Amazon now !! Kudo's Sandro Quote
Dezza Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 You can get pinholed tanks brazed if you take it to someone who knows what they are doing. I had a small trail bike tank done earlier this year by Racepaint near Nottingham. The tank then needs to be lined as a belt and braces approach. I used POR15 through recommendations here, there and everywhere. It's easy to use but not cheap but it does not fail over time like cheaper alternatives, apparently. Quote
