I think it is a self employed thing, not just this chap, never turn down work cos you don't know when the next customer/victim will appear ,book it in ,string people along till you get round to it, if you can get a deposit then even better,You've got them on the hook, and it's not likely they'll give the deposit up....

    Sort of (IMHO).

I think a lot of the issues with small companies and the self employed stem from a single issue. People seem to think that because they're good at something they can work for themselves no bother.

They trouble is that they, and a good many others, don't realise that being good at something and being able to run/manage a business are two very different things.

Some can do one or the other, very few can do both. Being good at what you do, and/or being a nice well meaning person will only carry you for a short while.

Unfortunately I can think of quite a few who are good at what they do, and great to chat to but couldn't run a business if their lives depended on it.

I know what you mean. Work on so many bikes and all of a sudden you can't remember what's what.

In my defence I haven't been that far into a GS1000 for a couple of decades. O.oxD

The GS has bolt on rubbers, Doesn't the GSX have seperate inlet tube type rubbers with a jubilee type clamp at either end? It's a very long time ago I worked on a GSX

If they are like the GS, I can measure the inside bore of the inlet rubber for you. I'm taking my carbs off today.

I just couldn't call to mind if the GS were bolt on or tubes as per the GSX. (y)

Ok mate,i'll leave your entry in though in case you fancy a bit of down time.

Oh I'll fancy it alright, but I have a small window to get everything moved out of the old workshop and container and into the new one. Then sorted and set up ready to start earning again because on top of the increased costs there's a period of not earning a penny for over a month to contend with. Worth it in the end, but it's going to sting for a bit. :tu

Maybe GS1000 rubbers might work or are they bolt on?

I'm not sure, I think they're the same set up but can't remember if they are whether the head side ID is the same. It's a very long time since I had anything to do with a GS1000.

Rossco's engine ?  Sad end to be dumped in a muddy field !!

Thanks for dropping the motor off with Clive.

    Gaz

I think it was because he wasn't there on the Friday/Saturday to get it into his car.

No worries, I remembered the alternator and starter too. (y)

I have no idea how I ended up tagging you in it?

Whatever, tell it to the judge. Guilty by association. xD

Came across a Ducati swinging arm that had been fitted to an EFE frame with Spondon drag slots at Stafford bike show so I promptly bought it along with the frame too egged on by @Paulmand @imagoIMG_20240420_122527.thumb.jpg.07594140e67c2f54355be68f9c51a48a.jpg IMG_20240422_112053.thumb.jpg.ce925ddd6de418d08e8dc2720903bdec.jpg

I get what you and a couple of others were saying about the welding on the arm being more purposeful than pretty, but I really like the look of that arm. Harvest the slots for your Spondon arm and replace them with something else and that arm and frame would be the beginnings of something good IMHO. (y)

    • Very violent on/off performance especially on large turbo big power bikes
    • looks really oldskool and cool and imo the only good reason to do it :tu

Agree with all of the post, especially those two points as they are exactly the reason I went for a draw through. :D

What is the advantages and disadvantages  of each

    Thanks in advanced,

The first/main question is, what do you want to use it for most often?

I’ll try and get a few late nights in this week to align wheels sprockets and make some spacers

     then  attack the calliper hanger

That's the order I did the rear wheel work for the Dresda, a month ago. I still haven't sorted the hanger. O.oxD

I keep looking at it and pondering whether it would be simpler/quicker/easier to stick with the hanger I have and get a disc to suit.

Yeah i know mate just ordered one from sps, mines fucked, where's me glassesO.o

You sometimes go onto auto-pilot with stuff like that. Strip it down, check all the plates carefully, see what the springs and back plate are like, check the basket for ridges and don't even glance at the inner.

Shit happens, you've found the issue. :tu

  12. Bandit 1250 throttle bodies go straight onto the air cooled head using the air cooled rubbers which you just rotate a touch to suit. :tu

This is a set on the ET engine in the Dresda. (I was pondering options at the time.)

That's the most obvious story but there are a load more factors actually..

I don't doubt it, with stuff like that there's usually one main factor and a host of other bits that contribute or make things worse. Over all though it doesn't seem to take much to get a TL into a serious superbike territory.

One of a few bikes I've always fancied but never owned.
