    Thank you,

and could you confirm that you are using the cometic fibre gasket,

were you advised that the O ring wasn’t required, or did you just figure that the head gasket and a dab of liquid gasket would do the job,

    thanks

I have a fibre cometic gasket.

It's just a chain tunnel, no pressure on the oil, just a lot of splatter.

Oil is mostly on the front and back, never had problems at the back.

The headgasket is a gasket, so why would it create problems?

    I didn't put an O-ring in because I didn't had one.

The teardrop ones at the bottom can be reused too, but do measure the thickness!! If the thickness is still the same you could do it, if they're thinner, replace them.

Also feel if they're still soft, if they're hardened replace them!

got to whip the head off my 1085BB GS1000, have recently heard the O ring isn’t required with the cometic fibre head gasket, is that correct,

and could the fact that I fitted an O ring last time I had it apart be the reason why the head gasket never really sealed, and got progressively worse ,

pain in the arse as runs really well, but covers the engine and my jeans in oil every time I ride it

    I haven't put the O-ring on mine.

Do put some liquid gasket on the front, and a bit to the sides, of the chain tunnel

  3. Update;

Got the bike going again after the accident, had to butcher another frame..

The plenum (160cc bigger) I have made defenitly a difference! Better throttle response off boost, on boost I can't really tell because I also put another turbo on it.

    But I needed bigger jets.

It's a bit stronger in the lower revs, and a better throttle response, so it wasn't a waste of time ;)

Going back to twin shocks on me gsx and bloke at Newark was kind enough to show me photos of how he did shock mounts , looks like the rubber bushing in the top mount has been sacrificed to get desired wall thickness. What's my best option ? This or original ish with nut on the end 20240107_141725.thumb.jpg.b2d8566a6daf778a500cbf9969b2114a.jpg

If that's welded properly it shouldn't be a problem

No even though it's a bigger turbo it spines up quicker. They have ceramic ball bearings enabling them to spin up faster 500 to 1000 rpm I would say.

    Thanks.

I thought it would spool up about the same..

I'll have some investigation to do then.

Why do you say that Rob ?

Bought a rebuilt one (IHI VF23) today with p20 exhaust housing but a slightly bigger compressor wheel giving it 20 to 30% more power, new ceramic bearings & new wheels. Hopefully it will be good.

I've ot the VF23 on my bike now, had a TD04 before.

Haven't riden it a lot, have to instal the bleedvalve aain. I thought the VF23 made about 19/20 psi standard, but mine only made 10.

Does your VF23 also spools up quite a bit slower then the TD04?

    Hi Folks

Hope everyone is doing well.  I’ve been slowly working on my gs1000 every so often and a couple of weeks ago I decided to install some headers, an exhaust and some k&n air filters.

I went up on the pilot jet to a 17.5 and 130 main jet. Bike idles good and starts good. 3/4 throttle and up is also good. Issue I’m having is when I’m cruising from 1/4-3/4 throttle the bike seems to hesitate and bog quite a bit. Air screw is out 2 turns and fuel screw is out 2 1/4 turns.

Needle clip is in its stock position. Would adjusting the needle clip be the solution?

What do you folks think it may be?

    All the best!!

    Carlos

The only proper way is to connect an O2 sensor with gauge and make visable what you're doing.

Sometimes when you're getting close to a good tune, the symptomes of too rich or too lean can be pretty similar. It takes the gues work out, and you can do a better job fine tuning it.

Hey all, my GS1000 was burning a ridiculous amount of oil. It lived it's previous life on gravel roads with a damaged air filter, so I decided to pull it apart and check on the rings. Long story short, I'm just going to hone the cylinders, replace the rings and valve seals. My question is, what's the best place to get standard size rings to fit the stock pistons? A lot of places seem to be out of stock of the standard size.

    Suzuki dealer.

Total seal, pretty quick and reasonable priced!!

Ya Im stripping the engine down again going to a lower compression ratio. Water meth and more boost. Will find out if the crank can take it haha

You got a spare engine? If the crank can't handle it, the crankcase is gone too most likely, ask me how I know.. ;)

Thanks to the help of may here and my lucky fumblings I have been able to get my 1981 GS550L running. While working on solving an electrical issue I notice some liquid dripping from the left muffler (White Circle).

    image.thumb.png.c5e03af47a3b09943af199284f20e29c.png

This liquid seems to be dripping from a bolt/insert/,,,,something (Red Arrow). Sitting still the liquid looks to be building up on this item (Green Arrow) before falling to the floor. Thinking this could be oil coming from the engine somewhere, I climbed under while running  I can see the liquid sometime spraying directly from the exhaust out of the bolt thing (Red Arrow).

    image.thumb.png.118f4f33b688f7a666da4885e5feedc6.png

This liquid seems to only be coming mainly from the left side. I think I have seen a few drops on the right side, but it is like a 99/1 ratio.

I gave the liquid the finger rub test and maybe kind of oily but I would call is more water like. Also it doesn't smell like gas or burn oil. Also not getting a thick black exhaust that would make ma think super rich mixture or burning out.

So I am a bit lost. Could it be water? If so where could it be coming from? If oil is there a way to enter the exhaust without burning?

    Taste it

Hmm... Just for reference, if we see US prices for Busa rods: CP-Carrillo - $1150-1430, Wossner - $900, Maxpeeding - $480. So about 2-3x difference. I can imagine getting some decent quality with that money if it's manufactured in cheaper location and some of marketing and profit overhead is cut away. In comparison Maxpeeding turbos start from $100 which is about 10x difference to genuine stuff so I highly doubt you can get anything decent for that cheap...

But naturally everyone must do their own choices and select what kind risks they want to take with their money. And I completely agree that risking with connecting rods is, well, risky. However, I know that these Maxpeeding rods have been used a lot also on pretty high power bikes and I haven't heard about problems any more than with brand name ones. So I think in this case the risk is fairly low.

Big chance I got thrown off currency rates, from USD to AUD.. Sometimes my computer goes by AUD sometimes by USD

I have also heard that Maxpeeding turbos are crap. And they are so cheap that they just can't be good. Their rods aren't that cheap in comparison.

What I can find the Maxpeeding is between 3 and 4 times cheaper then Carillo's.

This would be something I wouldn't have the guts to take the risk, suspension or a turbo failing is mostly very annoying, if a conrod fails there's a lot more damage..

  13. I thought Maxpeedingrods was/is crap..

I was looking at car parts not too long ago, turbochargers and suspension, that's when I heard about the brand. It was that cheap that raises questions. The reviews weren't good.

But a con rod hasn't got any moving parts, it might be ok.

  14. The turbo stuffed up, I'm bidding on another one, slightly bigger, when the bike is on the road again I'll have a look how the carb tune is.

In the past with another turbo I didn't had the problem with a rich mixture in the middle throttle running.

    Thanks for the tips.
