Mawa Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 (edited) Hi guys I’m having a bit of trouble with an engine that I was given for my project. The barrel says 748cc which makes it an 88/89 dot head but the clutch cover I think is off a 90/91 but the head is missing the casting dots so I’m guessing that the head has been swapped but I have no idea off of what. Gixer1460 Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 Could it be an 1100 head as I thought the 748 short stroke head had a different stud spacing (which matched the 1100 / 1200 pattern) compared to the long stroke 750? Quote
Mawa Posted February 22, 2018 Author Posted February 22, 2018 I have no idea lol i did also notice where the inlet rubbers bolt on the hole of the rubber don’t line up perfectly with the inlet holes of the head and came with 36mm carbs which I have just fully rebuilt and stage 3 jetted to now find I don’t have a dot head Quote
Captain Chaos Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 IIRC 1100 heads fit on shortstroke 748 lumps, not because of the studs spacing but because of the camchain tunnel area. Not 100% sure though. Quote

Mawa Posted February 22, 2018 Author Posted February 22, 2018 So if it is 1100 head and they put the 1100 cams in as well, im guessing it’s gonna like crap. Quote
clivegto Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 (edited) If you took the head off you could measure the valves. 750 dot head has the same size valves as the 1100 ones long stroke 750 have smaller valves. Only other way is the carb rubbers as you say they dont match, but can be trimmed to sort out the steps. All the carb rubbers match the head they were designed for.
