homer Posted November 12, 2017 Posted November 12, 2017 Want to keep my 7/13 weight low with a tight budget. I have a small and light 12v 3Ah battery and I was wondering will it be enough to crank my bike? It will be a track bike so ignition is only electrical thingy there. Quote
Arttu Posted November 13, 2017 Posted November 13, 2017 If it's a lead acid battery most likely it wont give enough cranking current. Depending on battery type and quality you will probably need something like 7-10Ah lead acid battery at minimum. Lithium (LiFePo4) batteries give more cranking current relative to their capacity so even 4Ah could be enough with them. Quote
Macduff Posted November 13, 2017 Posted November 13, 2017 And it will depend on how good a starter your engine is hot or cold. If its just a bit reluctant or tempermental a small capacity battery is just going to piss you off as some point. Though you could get one of those jump starter boxes to cover off that problem. Quote
homer Posted November 13, 2017 Author Posted November 13, 2017 LiFePo4 would be nice but my efe need that more than this one. Have to test it will it be enough. Quote
suzook12 Posted November 14, 2017 Posted November 14, 2017 You could fit an anderson plug to the bike so you can start from a remote battery, once running disconnect and go, assuming you are running an alternator of course.... 1 Quote
homer Posted November 15, 2017 Author Posted November 15, 2017 That is actually great idea. Just a small battery to keep the ignition running and remote one for starting. Quote
