stevewharton Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Hi, can anyone tell me what the total fuel capacity is in the petrol tank of my 1992 GSX1100G shaft drive? Since buying it last year I've never had to put more than £10 worth of petrol in it to fill it and when the gauge shows empty another £10 fills it again, that's just over 2 gallons at the filling station I use. I'm pretty sure that a big petrol tank like this should hold a lot more than 2 gallons, so does anyone know what it should hold? The other question I have is can anyone tell me which position is which on the large fuel tap dial which is mounted in the bodywork on the kerbside, it can point up, which I guess is the reserve position, or to the back of the bike, which I think is the off position and down which I think is the on position, I don't want to risk going to reserve in case it's used the last drop. Thanks in advance for any advice, cheers Steve. Quote
Gixer1460 Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Safe to say......................don't trust the gauge! You've probably got nearly 5 gallons main tank so i'd brim the tank and zero the trip and ride as normal - its got to do 40-45 miles / gallon so a potential range of 200-225 miles whilst still tap is 'on' but you really need to establish 'on' and 'reserve' for peace of mind - sorry can't help you there! Captain Chaos Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Usually ON is down, RES is up and PRI is sideways. And yes it has a 22l fuel tank. Quote
Captain Chaos Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 just googled "gsx1100g side panel". No PRI but OFF position, which makes sence since it has a fuel pump. Quote
Gixer1460 Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Why is the answer always...................................................GOOGLE IT! 1 Quote
Captain Chaos Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 because it was probably the only thing my wife doesn't know better. Quote
stevewharton Posted May 6, 2016 Author Posted May 6, 2016 Thanks guys, especially Captain Chaos for the scan which explains a lot, like I've been thinking reserve is on and vise versa Quote
tabby59 Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 Off topic, but if you haven't put a pipe on it, I'm pretty happy with the stainless steel Speed Products{Germany} pipe I put on my "G". I'm here in the US, and nobody makes a pipe for these bikes here,,,,, let alone one in SS. I adapted a Hindle Stealth muffler to it, so it would be easier to live with. http://www.eagle-exhaust.com/Eagle-Mach-7-GSX-1100-G-Komplettanlage-4in1-mit-EG-ABE Quote
stevewharton Posted May 10, 2016 Author Posted May 10, 2016 Hi Tabby59, as you can see from the scan mine has upswept stainless steel (I believe) Yoshimura (I believe) pipes fitted, which sound awesome when it's opened up and even better when slowing down, Steve. 1 Quote
