slabbyowner Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 Hi guys. I've been trying to identify a rattle on my bike ( gsxr11 slabside). At first me and every one else thought it was tappets. So I've checked them and there ok. I've also checked the idler wheel. That's ok too. I've just had a look at the rear cam chain guide and I think that's ok. It's a bit tricky as I'm having to do this outside in the road. I'm going to pop some photos on. Just one question though for myself and any one else who is wondering where they can get a rear cam chain guide as it seems you can't get a new one any more. Can the gsx1100 f cam chain guides or any other guides be used in the gsxr1052 engine. ( A person on a selling site told me I can use the gsx11f) Cheers Quote
Upshotknothole Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 They're no longer available, not sure about using a powerscreen one. Have you checked your cam chain tensioner? Those springs wear out, and I think people found one from another bike that'll work, or you can go with a manual cam chain tensioner. Your guide doesn't look bad to me, I'd start with resetting the tensioner and going from there. Quote

I did try a few washers to compensate for loss of spring length. The cam chain has around a 1000 miles on it Quote
slabbyowner Posted December 16, 2024 Author Posted December 16, 2024 Well it seems the guides are ok. I might have a look for a spring for the cam chain tensioner now Quote
Upshotknothole Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 Search around on here, I think people might have been using Bandit ones, but can't remember. I know it's been brought in the past 6 months. Quote

I imagine it's the same for slabby and slingshot but not 100% Other option is a manual one. Edited December 18, 2024 by spiderpig Quote
Dezza Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 The new cam chain tensioner spring for the B12 from Suzuki works fine in powerscreen and 1100 slabby engines, and thus probably all the 1127 engines. 2 Quote
slabbyowner Posted December 21, 2024 Author Posted December 21, 2024 Cheers spiderpig and dezza. I will get one and give it a try. I have very gently pushed the tensioner in one click. Used my little finger with effort. Just waiting for some dry weather to test it out. Quote
slabbyowner Posted December 29, 2024 Author Posted December 29, 2024 Took the bike for a blast. Still sounds like loose cam chain or badly adjusted tappets. Chain is tight and all tappets are set at .10. It's not smoking or anything. I'm going to have another look later hopefully. Will pop piccies and maybe a clip on if possible. Quote

I'm not sure if they sent the wrong spring or I ordered the wrong the spring. But it's smaller than my little finger and way to strong. Quote
Dezza Posted January 9 Posted January 9 The 2 new B12 OEM springs I have bought over the last few years from Robinsons were both identical, and clearly longer than the old ones. Quote
slabbyowner Posted January 9 Author Posted January 9 Thanks dezza. I've probably ordered the wrong one. Gsf1200 I ordered it because I couldn't find anything else and didn't think there would be that much difference. I have read about other people using bandit springs in slabbies. I'm saving my pennies now to get a different engine that fits. Quote

The spring I received today I can only just compress with my fingers. I'm guessing there very different springs on bandits after 2001 Quote

slabbyowner Posted January 9 Author Posted January 9 (edited) Cheers dezza Ps. I don't know anything about bandits to be honest and I can't find any info on the springs. Is there much of a difference in the oil cooled bandit engines. I'm just trying to find out if I've made the mistake or the shop did. Robinson's aren't far I might pop up tomorrow if I get time Edited January 9 by slabbyowner Quote
Dezza Posted January 9 Posted January 9 According to their website the part number is: 12833-26D10 (1996-2000; MK1) and costs a tenner. Last one I bought I stuck in a powerscreen engine. Quote
