Alternator wires where to.

Managed to cobble the loom together on the CB1157F. Had it running and apart from a carb issue all seems well. Two wires left are the thick red and orange ones from the alternator. Can the red one go straight to the battery via a fuse? I have no ignition switch, lights, clocks. Just ignition, oil light and brake light through the kill switch. What do I do with the orange wire? Ta.

Red to the battery, the Orange is the live for everything else

Orange normally to Ign Sw. then to fusebox so everything can be turned off - bare basic looms are great till something goes wrong and nothing can be isolated or turned off! And I wouldn't put Alternator output (orange) through a kill switch unless you want either a melted mess or a fire on your hands!

Was thinking of running the orange wire through a hidden isolator switch for very basic security. Inquiring fingers etc when parked. Thanks @Gixer1460

The smallerorange wire is the exciter wire. Needs a live v+ feed from the ignition switch to make the alternator work.

Larger red wire is the output, inormally run this to the battery side ofthe starter solenoid, but straight to the battery is fine depending on packaging.

So I could run the orange wire from the + battery through a heavy switch to the alternator? No ignition switch fitted. Kill switch won't take the load. Thanks @dupersuncSorry for the questions. Wiring not my strong point.

yeah, that would work. not a big load on the orange wire, or run it off a relay from the ignition live.

My Slabbie race bike i just have a Ducati kill switch that runs a live to the cdi and alternator. works fine, has done for years.
