KBL Posted July 16, 2023 Posted July 16, 2023 Can anyone tell me if having a loose cylinder sleeve will be a problem? I deglazed cylinder walls before installing new rings. That went well. After washing out with warm soap and water Noticed that # 4 sleeve was sitting slightly above the deck. Tapped it down, no problem. Then realized I could push it up from the bottom. Didn't come right out but yah it's loose. I'm thinking once bolted in it'll be OK but not sure. Any advice? Quote
Swiss Toni Posted July 16, 2023 Posted July 16, 2023 Well, the head will hold it down ok. How about cleaning it off, and putting a few dabs of bearing retainer or similar on it? Quote
Gixer1460 Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 Its not going to be a mechanical problem but could lose a bit of cooling without the tight contact so expect that cylinder to run hotter! Quote
Poldark Posted July 18, 2023 Posted July 18, 2023 When that sleeve heats up, it should expand and make contact with the cylinder block. Cast iron does have a lower thermal expansion ratio than aluminum, so.... Take one for the team; OSS research. ???? Quote
KBL Posted July 22, 2023 Author Posted July 22, 2023 Thanks for the response guys. All good info. Found that PERMATEX actually has a sleeve retainer compound. Loctite 640 is the same. Will try that. Am quite confident that will resolve my problem. Your help is much appreciated. Cheers Quote
