cnap504 Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 Hello, is there an easy front caliper swap for a ‘82 GS1000SZ that improves braking? Quote
Fazz711 Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 Any later four pots with adapter plates is a very good improvement Quote
cnap504 Posted July 9, 2021 Author Posted July 9, 2021 Anyone know the diameter of the original GS1000S/GS1100E front discs? Thanks Quote
cnap504 Posted July 10, 2021 Author Posted July 10, 2021 Got it 275mm. Are any 320mm discs known to bolt to the original ‘82 GS wheel? Quote
Slabby11 Posted July 10, 2021 Posted July 10, 2021 Early hounda fireplace discs are the same bolt pattern - there are a number of diameters and offsets so needs a bit of research to get exactly what you need to match the calipers 1 Quote
Gammaboy Posted July 28, 2021 Posted July 28, 2021 Because I had wire wheels, none of the 4 pot calipers would fit. I wound up designing a kit that used SV650 calipers and VFR ~296mm discs (I actually used Aprilia RS250 discs for the prototype with the holes slotted 2mm or something). Pretty sure I posted drawings of the adaptor plate. That disc size with the SV calipers lets you use the upper fork mount hole (so the adaptor plate had 3 holes instead of 4) and made a huuuuuge difference in braking compared to the factory shit. Gammaboy Posted July 28, 2021 Posted July 28, 2021 I thought there was another thread, but that shows the setup. First model VFR800 discs, not VFR750. Quote
cnap504 Posted July 29, 2021 Author Posted July 29, 2021 Gammaboy, I looked up SV650 calipers and they look like 4 pots to me, unless I didn’t differentiate between 4 live pistons and 2 live with the back pads applied by the sliding caliper mount. Thanks for the info Quote
