slabsideB12Kent Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 (edited) Guy at work said he has a Japanese import GSXR 1100M for sale. The bikes in bits and im just after the engine, figure its a good way of increasing the power of my bike (its got a 1200 bandit lump). Does anyone know how to tell which country a bike came from? Ive asked for the engine and VIN numbers. My fear is its a French model or something like that which is restricted. Edited June 30, 2021 by slabsideB12Kent I didn't hit the follow tab Quote

Motors are all the same spec iirc, its in ignition and carbs where restriction is Quote
slabsideB12Kent Posted June 30, 2021 Author Posted June 30, 2021 Is it just a case of fitting an ECU from a UK bike and bigger carbs then its a goer? Quote

Joseph Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 (edited) French GSXR oil cooled versions were restricted with spacers under the carb caps (preventing the slides full open travel) And inside the exhaust header there were restrictors at the entry reducing the diameter of the pipes. So in the case of a french bike basically with an aftermarket exhaust (who runs a stock one anyway) and 15 minutes on the carbs it's good to go with full HP, but i doubt there still exists a restricted oil cooled GSXR on the road in France anyway Edited June 30, 2021 by Joseph 3 Quote
slabsideB12Kent Posted July 5, 2021 Author Posted July 5, 2021 Good point Joseph. I'm just wondering what's going on. The Japanese didn't sell 1100's at that time when I ask Google. Afterwards they were restricted to 100bhp? I also read that the French GSXR 1100 had a different head... Quote
slabsideB12Kent Posted July 5, 2021 Author Posted July 5, 2021 Found out the bike is a Gv73a vin number with a v710 engine Quote
Joseph Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 So would that be a screw and nut rocker 1127 ? I had a quick look, the part fiches indicate code E18 and E39 for the cylinder head (specific to switzerland and austria) E04 (french code) appears for a specific exhaust header. Cannot find the carburetor microfiche to check the specifics but the french market didn't have a different cylinder head Quote
slabsideB12Kent Posted July 5, 2021 Author Posted July 5, 2021 Im not sure what valve adjustment is used in this bike, am I right in thinking its before the cross over period? Are there any downsides to the shim head? Quote
Joseph Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 Makes no difference i think, just you need to buy shit when valves need doing on a shim head. V713 is the '91/M engine that started using shims Quote
slabsideB12Kent Posted August 18, 2021 Author Posted August 18, 2021 (edited) So I've had the bike for a month now. It has stickers on it written in English, French and German but there's a couple that are English and German only. Edited August 18, 2021 by slabsideB12Kent Data errors Quote
