colinworth79 Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Ok I'm now starting to build up a new engine and have a APE big block running 86mm ( 1371) cases have been opened up to except the block . My question is do I block up the oil feed for the head in the cases ( next to the 2 outside rear studs ) and run external oil line or leave as original . The APE block has the oil way machined in the block . Don't wont oil leaks from the base gasket . Quote
clivegto Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 External might be better depending on head gasket. Just from experience on 1340 motor. Quote
colinworth79 Posted November 13, 2015 Author Posted November 13, 2015 that's what I'm thinking . Never had any oil leak issues with the current 1216 turbo lump but the gasket face on the 1371 engine is noticeably thinner . Quote
suzook12 Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 On my 1340, the sleeves are waisted to clear the oilway, retaining the internal oilway. To go 1371, most go external as the oilway is fouled or opened up.Steve Quote
