Why NOT a 750 ?

Read heaps of threads about engine swaps, front ends, oil cooled lumps into air cooled frames, mounting the lumps at the rear or front etc etc. Still looking for a bit of info. (Feel free to point me at somewhere I have missed as i know its a shit folk asking the same questions over and over)

I have a Bandit 12 I'm happy to break up, and a heap of GSX1100ET parts I've been storing away for years.  Is there a good reason NOT to use a 750 frame instead of an 1100. Haven't found an 1100 frame that I'm happy to use / affordable / AU complianced, but just been offered a 750ET frame.

Just want someone to confirm that the 750 frame will take the Bandit lump and 1100ET bodywork, and that I'm not heading in the wrong direction if I buy it ?

Do folk use 750 frames for 1100 air or 1200 oil cooled builds?

Thanks.

I posted in the Air-cooled section as the motor isn't set in stone.

Its more the frame info I was after and figured if anyone had done a 7/11 aircooled swap or mixed bodywork they'd have the answers too.

Thanks for the feed back Mr Viz.

well I've had a 1100 aircooled lump in both et frames and a 1216 oilboiler in both frames and a 750 et aircooled lump in both frames if that helps dude?

Just what I was after thanks.

I'd guessed the lower mounts at least would be different between 7 and 11, as long as the 750 ET has room for an 11 or 12 and the bodywork is common to all ET's that ticks all the box's.

Just wanted to check as I think the later box section 750 frames were a tight fit and hoped it wasn't the case with the early tube ones.

Thanks again.

Mine started out as a 750 Kat - (the 750 motor went into the GSX1100 the 1100 came out of, should have kept that bike) - I'd have no issues what so ever starting with a 750 frame.

Box section 750s - ie pop up Kats etc - are a very different motor - easily identified by the 2 style grooves on the clutch cover. They run a different gearbox centre spacing, and are probably closer to a GSXR motor than a GSX - Oil cooled motors will go into them easily, Air cooled motors require the frame to be stretched ~1" because they're so short fore/aft.

Thanks. Yeah, I've had a GSX750ESD in the past, half faired / 16" front wheel.  Was my winter "rat" in the UK.

Bandit was going to be a donor for my Slabsider project but I was buying ET bits on Eblag and a local guy i was dealing with has a 750 frame, I've been collecting ET parts / spares for a while for my wire wheel ET, and seen a few with Oil cooled lumps and started thinking.

I know the 12 lump will go into my current ET but I'd rather start building another than pull this one to bits. More time and money I'm already short of,  but a better result in the end.
