colepvhigh Posted July 7, 2020 Posted July 7, 2020 So i was riding on the 4th of July and all of a sudden oil started leaking out of my crankcase. NOT A SMALL LEAK. I took the crankcase apart and thought it was a gasket issue. But after further inspection, This bushing was protruding out and I think i put too much oil and it caused this bushing to bust. If anyone could let me know what this is it would be greatly appreciated. Working on my first bike is very frustrating but rewarding when you hopefully figure out the problem. Again thank you very much, Cheers, Cole Garcia Quote
Gixer1460 Posted July 7, 2020 Posted July 7, 2020 If this is the same bike ? ? ? Then it looks like a simple oil seal but also you seem to be maybe missing the retainer plate hence why excess oil forced it out? Quote
colepvhigh Posted July 7, 2020 Author Posted July 7, 2020 Thank you im trying to find the replacement retainer plate Quote
Poldark Posted July 7, 2020 Posted July 7, 2020 Don't forget to go do an introduction post in the "general chat" section. Quote
gsx Posted July 12, 2020 Posted July 12, 2020 If memory serves me right it's a lipped seal and needs the cases splitting , had the chain do the push rod many years ago , youth and lack of maintainance, second time I got a second and engine for 25 quid ! 1 Quote
Vagabond Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Did you ever solve this issue? I just bought the same bike as a project. All the diagrams I can find look like the one here, but I'm 99% sure there is no retainer plate on the 80 gs250. Quote
colepvhigh Posted August 27, 2020 Author Posted August 27, 2020 there is no retainer plate on this year and model to fix the issue they hammered a piece of metal to stop the bushing from coming out Quote
Vagabond Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Thanks for getting back to me. Just curious what exactly you mean by your comment. Did they hammer the bushing into place with a piece of metal? Or they added a custom made piece of metal on top of the bushing to hold it in? Quote
colepvhigh Posted August 27, 2020 Author Posted August 27, 2020 Just now, Vagabond said: Thanks for getting back to me. Just curious what exactly you mean by your comment. Vagabond Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Okay cool, thanks! I bought some hi-temp hi-strength silicone adhesive and I'm thinking I'll probably just try it with that to begin with. Quote
