Reinhoud Posted July 18, 2019 Posted July 18, 2019 Gents, In my collection of "junk" I have 2 different sort of wrist pins, thick wall (3.5mm) and a thinner wall (2.5mm) thickness. I'm going to order new wrist pins in the near future, and I want the ones with the thicker wall thickness (3.5) for a GS1000. (18mm) Anyone knows which model uses the 3.5mm wrist pins? Thanks Quote
RickC Posted July 27, 2019 Posted July 27, 2019 Reinhoud, I don't know much about wrist pins but the thicker ones may not be stronger as metal technologies developed the lighter 2.5mm ones might be stronger, Less weight on the conrod seems to be what modern engines are aiming for. Reinhoud Posted July 27, 2019 Author Posted July 27, 2019 Are tool steel pins stronger than stock ones? I did not know that 2.5mm might be stronger.. Thanks Quote
Gixer1460 Posted July 27, 2019 Posted July 27, 2019 Tool steel should have better properties than 'regular' steel - whether they are applicable to gudgeon pin requirements is debatable. I've seen nice pins out of a GSXR - 20mm dia. that were deffo thick across the centre bore and chamfered to the outer edges maybe 2mm thick where they sit in the pistons - sort of makes sense, strongest at the single load point then shared to either side of the piston.
