Both 750 and 1100 ET frames are the same. So are the tanks.

Get them re-chromed. Either Philpots or HCP&G. Both good.

Mod chappie. I was just going to ask to get it moved! You’re too quick for an old timer! Cheers me dear!

Regarding, the op’s post, Are these fucking cams fucking fucked, or fucking what??? For fucks sake!
I’ve got 3 Slabbie 750 cams in the garage. I knew they were bad. So, I decided to stick them up, with pics, in the ‘For Sale’ section as, Vintage, ultra rare high lift cams, ‘taken from Kevin Schwantz’s race engine. One race only. Rare, one grind only and reputed to be Yoshimura pre-production’. £600. Buy it now price £750. But, I was a bit scared to put them up in case someone took me seriously!
I forgot to mention ‘Barn Find’ as well That’s always good for another 50 quid!
As it happens, when I dug them out … they’re nowhere as bad as I thought they were! So …
Just fuckin’ witcha!
PS. I’d love to show ya what I just bought this afternoon,
but …..

That's why he was only asking £70 for the pair of them. I thought they were junk but just wanted confirmation from those with more knowledge than me
£70??? I'd think he was taking the piss if he was asking more than a tenner! Robbing bastard!

The little I've found out so far about these is that there were 9 of these 'Solitaire' frames made by Dave Degens in the 1970s following his success both in racing and with building Triton frames. A couple were made for Yamaha, the rest being for CB900s and GS1000s. They were sold as kits with the option of you supply the donor and they'd build them like Harris etc. They were raced, but there's no info I can find so far on by who or where.
If anyone has anymore info or can point me in the direction of somewhere I can find some then please do.
Drop Dave Degens an email. He’ll probably fill in the gaps?

The good old days when you could pick up one of these motors and put it on your bench. Now my back starts twinging just looking at a oil cooled motor never mind a air cooled one
Heaviest motor I ever lifted was a H*n*a VF1000. What a weight! I also had a CBX1000Z six on the bench. I thought, ‘If that goes, it’s taking me with it’! Admitted defeat. Got help.

Not getting a hernia. Getting a hernia!

Sounds like you’ve got a bit of a job on your hands with that motor. They can take a lot of abuse, so all is not lost! Just go through it methodically, as you seem to be doing, and you’ll triumph in the end.
And, welcome to OSS! (We need more pictures)! -
Cheers, Sean!

Ok, lads. Thanks for the input.

So the stem won't fit the B6 headstock?

Anyone know if a B12 top yoke will mate up to an RF900 lower yoke?

I forgot to add … An old trick for seized threads, was to apply plenty heat and, before anything else, apply a small candle to the thread of the stud/bolt/nut. The capillary action sucks the paraffin wax into the threads and, nine times outta ten, frees off the recalcitrant object.

I found a pipe wrench worked for me when I was doing my gs thou,
Ok if renewing the studs, not so much if re-using. Marks them up too badly.

Just keep on with the heat. If you’re trashing the studs, get a grip on the stud as low as you possibly can. Heat/cool is the answer. Two nuts will just twist and snap the stud.

Glad this was ‘bumped’! Still a very interesting read. Was it ‘stickied’ at some point?

Anyone seen the latest issue of CMM? One of our favourites this month. What’s the verdict?
