  1. I picked up a billet straight cut GS1100 clutch years ago. Originally I thought about cutting it down to GS1000 dimensions to fit under the cover. But not sure if that would work. The other thought was to make a spacer for my clutch cover, to move it out so the throw out arm shaft lines up…. …anyone try either method?
  2. Wheels are EPM on the bike, 19 front, 18 rear….but I have a pair of 18’s I’m putting on the bike. Also have a set of Kosman 13 inch cast iron first gen floating rotors on aluminum carrier’s, and full set of Lockheed calipers front/rear.
  3. Looking into bringing a project I started collecting for 15 years ago, back to life. Started collecting bits for it when I could still find good stuff on the E auction site at reasonable prices. And then 2009 hit, and damn near wiped me out…$$$... I managed to save the bike, but when life slowly got back to normal, I got into two strokes, and the GS collected dust instead of more parts. Then around 2016, I bought a parts bike for my 78, because it was close to home and cheap. But after I started looking at it and got the parts bike running….my GS was left behind once again. The parts bike (Left for Dead GS1000) took my attention and $$$. Parts bike (Left for Dead GS1000) was sold a few years ago, and I think it’s time to bring my old skunk back to life. But…..after looking for bits I still need, it seems parts I need from Suzuki are NLA now…. As are most parts I have needed on my two stroke projects…Covid really shut off a lot of parts from factory parts lists on everything it seems. This will not be a quick project. I will be happy if I even get a chance to start it by winter (providing I have the parts I need by then.
  4. 28 degrees a few days ago 69 degrees today.....so....I got some bikes out to try and clear winter from my head. The RSV4 not only cleared my head, it nearly melted my brain.... Also got the VJ21 SP project out with the new shifter and back to stock 34 Mikuni carbs and air box. Shifter works beautifully. Feels just as good as my RSV4....very smooth, and exact. Very happy with the settings the Zeel has for it. Carburetion....started off with all factory settings/Jets...and stock airbox. Bottom end feels much better than the Lectrons, and once it’s warmed up and the pipes are cleared out a bit, it pulls quite well. Although, when I have throttle at 100% open, it seems to feel like I lose about 1/2 the power...7/8 throttle, and pulls strong to redline....same issue I had with the Lectrons. I reset the TPS, with the Zeel, for the 34’s....so....maybe a TPS issue...? always something.... Pics are in reverse order...sorry
  5. I think the issue was this is a watercooled section, and talk about an engine which is cooled in some other manner....should be talked about in it's own section...? Just guessing anyway... Yes, I have a Katana...82 GS1000SZ Anything else called a Kat does bother me.... I do like the pop ups though
  6. We had 1100 Kats here in the US back in 88+ with the oil cooled GSXR/Bandit look alike motor But they were definitely not water cooled....
  7. This is from my Left for Dead GS1000 project GSX 1150 rotor, GSXR caliper, GS1000 rear hub, GS1100 swingarm, and I think the GS1000 caliper mount redrilled
  8. Cleaned up a set of carbs I pulled from one of my boxes of spares. Look pretty good now, and have new gaskets/seals and jets to go in depending on what I decide to do to the airbox. I am giving up on the Lectrons for now Also finally got my quickshifter switch, so I can now adapt parts from 4 bikes to get it to work with my Zeel ignition. Foot peg mount is VJ21 with the peg mount recut at 90 degrees. Footpeg is VJ22 so the shift lever can pivot from it. Shift lever is VJ23, that threads into a GSXR600 shift rod, that goes to the switch, that goes to a VJ22 lever.... All so simple...
  9. The A/F went from terrible to bad... So it was an improvement....but way too lean in the middle and could not change it without making it too rich at the top...I could make Good power up top, but I will melt it down while riding it anywhere below full throttle, after the dyno now. The Lectrons were a very expensive experiment to try and get a few extra HP.....and I failed. I am collecting parts to put the original 34 Mikuni's back on.....
  10. Not powder coat. Not sure how well it will hold up, but I have used the same process on several other rebuilds and have no issues yet. But I’m sure if it got scratched or hit by rocks it would come off. I had originally built the RGV/SP to go to Bonneville salt flats, but after I finished it....it was to clean to trash with salt after all that time and work. But I am taking my Hayabusa to the slats flats (bucket list kind of thing) so....still Suzuki
  11. Have not put much time into getting the carbs 100% dialed in. Too many other things getting in the way, as well as just being lazy. I have over 250 miles on the bike so far, without the slightest issue of any kind besides carb tuning below 5000rpm. And in all reality, when I decided to first build the bike, my concerns for pulling away from a stop sign were zero. So the bike actually performs as initially intended. But as the direction of use has changed some, I am still hoping to find a way to get the bottom end better for intown riding as well as 130+ on the back roads. 4.1 needles in the carbs now have given me some help between 5000 and 6000, but at this point I am just wasting time till I get a few A/F readings. I did get some use out of it this weekend though, and took it into town to a friends house for a cookout
  12. A member of another forum just posted this for me. Practical Sportsbikes posted my VJ21SP as bike of the month...
  13. I am done with two stroke projects for a while. I have a 86 GSXR1100 GU74, and my 78 GS1000 AMA style bike both in line next for the table. So this long term RGV VJ22 has to go....Either in pieces complete as a project to someone, or just pieces. I have had it apart for 12 years now, and I know I will never get to it for myself....or to fix for anyone else. A few more miles on the VJ21/SP. Trying to get the Lectron dialed in. Above 6000 the bike runs pretty clean and seriously hauls ass, but still weak below 6000. So I need to keep tweeking the needle some more I think. __________________________________________________________
  14. Header is a Kerker heavy gauge competition pipe, with big baffle....this version out of production for about 25 years at least. The seat was a spare I had, that was in bad shape. So I took the cover off and took a grinding disc to it and reshaped it. Then I got some heavy vinyl and cut out the cover....and sewed it myself.... I eventually took the seat off and recovered it professionally then put it on my left for dead project.
  15. First chance at getting a few miles in on the RGV to start the break in. Only rode about 15 miles, as I am not very trusting with going much further as of yet. No leaks and nothing fell off or came loose, bike shifted and stopped as I had hoped. The carbs will need some looking into, as the low end take off is poor.......along with the close ratio and my gearing choice (15-45) it is a real bitch to get rolling. Keeping the revs below 6000 is hard because that is just where this thing feels like taking off like a rocket. Time to pull the tank and have a look see..... Sorry the picture quality sucks...I need a new phone, but keep buying parts for my bikes instead. VJ21-SP / VJ22-SP / VJ23-SP......Dry clutch fetish....
