  1. @Oilyspannerso you would recommend the jmt lithium ones? I’ve bought one but was second guessing using it as someone told me he had a customer bring one into his shop that had swollen and started smoking, I’ve bought a gel equivalent in size just to see if that would power it to
  2. Thanks mate I appreciate your help, you wouldn’t know what year the r6 was do you as the 1999 and say 2001 are different just wanted to make sure as the 2001 has a lot less cca as the 1999 which is a bit bigger. ill check out that batteryniw, thanks for that.
  3. Thanks mate, did you mod any of the electrics at all? Nice bike by the way
  4. I’ve been looking at changing to gel battery but need to cut down the size of possible but the only way is to get a battery with lower spec cca and ah, what’s the lowest you could go to really and still run the bike properly or do you really need to get the same? my 92 750 battery is a lot smaller at 180 cca I can’t see why that wouldn’t work as it’s a similar bike but could you go any lower? would a r1 battery work? cheers
  5. Lol are the lithium ion batteries unsafe to use? I’m still feel a bit dodgy about them as I know the rc car ones have known to be a bit unsafe. i would rather a gel as I’ve always used them but don’t think I have the room under the tank
  6. Not sure about gel but I’ve bought one of those lithium ion ones it’s for the 92 gsxr as for some reason 90 gsxr equivalent was bigger but thought I’d give it a try anyway, it’s tiny tho, haven’t been able to start the bike yet tho as it’s not ready but accidentally hit the start button and it did turn over.
  7. Cheers everyone, I’ll roll with 180 then, what sort of clearance is acceptable with the chain so close to the tyre? Would it cause any safety issues?
  8. I recently bought some new tyres for my build and I just went ahead a bought the same size that were currently on the bike from the previous owner, the rear was a 180 and after having a closer look there isn’t a lot of clearance between the edge on the tyre and the chain, it must of been ridden like that and I rode it for a few days before I rip it apart. i just wanted to ask if the 180 is the standard tyre size and if not is it ok to run it or does anyone on here run a 180 on there’s? cheers
  9. Thanks mate I’ll definitely check it then, thanks for your help I appreciate it
  10. Thanks Jonny some good info there and that side stand part is something I wanted to do but didn’t really know how, would you say that over charging mod is essential?
  11. Lol nice mark, I’ll be welding it myself I did another mod on the front of it at Christmas time and luckily it turned out not to bad so thought I’d give this a try too, the tig machine is definitely the best tool I’ve bought, can do whatever really when your building a bike :-)
  12. Cheers boys I appreciate your help, I’ll do that then because it’ll definitely help tidy up the wiring a bit, would anyone know what size wire is best to use? I’ve got some standard 2.5mm but the stock one seems to be like a fabric coated cable
  13. Sorry for another post but I need to relocate my circuit breaker on the Gsxr 750 1990, is there anything I can buy to replace this circuit breaker with? I don’t just want to cut the wires and reconnect to the stock circuit breaker as it’s a weird shape and I can’t really fix it anywhere. is it just a case of buying a 12v circuit breaker with the same amp rating? cheers
  14. Thanks guys I know it is just a bit of bling but think the machining of it and try to make one would be a fun challenge, think I’ll leave it as it’ll probably look rubbish with the mechanism running through the centre of it
  15. I like the look of the clutch window and would like to a this project to the list but after taking the clutch cover off I can’t really see that it’s possible as it has the part that operates the clutch running down the middle of the cover, just wanted to ask if anyone’s still done this or is it’s possible?
  16. Lol, she already warned me about the dangers of welding petrol tanks. i pretend I’m listening then go out to the garage and break out the disk cutter
  17. Thanks guys I appreciate that, think I’ll go ahead with it, it was the mrs that made me worried because I mentioned to her my plans and she said... you sure you won’t blow yourself up doing that lol
  18. I’ve been trying to find a location for my battery on this build, with space being really tight due to the look in trying to get I thought about making a box, cutting out a space in the back of the tank and welding it in so that the battery would be fixed to the top of the frame and the tank would then sit over it, I thought it was a good idea but was then worried it might be a bit too unsafe? Maybe the battery would cook and blow the tank up or just get too hot or spark off something randomly lol, I’d line the box with heat and fire resistant material and then enclosure the battery terminal area with delrin or rubber. Just wanted to ask if anyone’s done similar or if you think it’s a bit stupid? i know I’d loose petrol capacity but I don’t mind about that cheers
  19. Does anyone know what type and size the connectors are for the starter relay please? It’s the smaller wires, I think ones black and white and ones yellow and green? The bikes a gsxr 750 1990. one of the cables have split right on the bend so want to give it a refresh and put some new connector on it if possible. cheers
  20. Thanks arttu I appreciate your help I think I’ll try that for now and see how I go, sounds like a good idea, hopefully try and fire up the bike in the next few months, trying to save up for some parts atm so doing the cheaper jobs to keep me going.
  21. Thanks boys, i want to use the 16mm but I need quite a tight bend to get in the battery box and it’s just a little too thick, so would you say the 10mm is definitely not suitable? If so I’ll make the 16mm work. nice photos kurf very clean, hopefully mine might look that clean but some of the electrical components are to grubby
  22. I’m making some custom battery terminal cables as I’ve relocated the battery and the original cables aren’t long enough, are 70 amp cables ok or 110 amp? I’ve bought a set of both but the 110 amp ones are to thick for me to get in position so I wanted to ask if the 70 amp will be ok? the 70 amps or 10mm squared and the 110 16mm squared. cheers
  23. Thanks again everyone, I’ll post some pics on Sunday when I get back to the bike, does anyone know what that baffle thing inside the tank does? That’s a great idea johnr that would be the best way to fix the problem I think, do you know what type of pipe would be best to use? Not sure if it looked like stainless? If I sleeved it would you use jubilee clips not sure if that’s a good idea tho in case the cake loose lol cheers
  24. Does anyone know if that baffle inside the tank is important?
