Suddenly bike won't start only a ticking starter relay?
Jpich85 replied to Jpich85's topic in Oil Cooled
Thanks @Wee ManI'll give them a check, it's stange though as everything is new on there and I've been firing it up and running it for the past few weeks, I went on holiday, came back and messed with the rev pick up then this lol -

Thanks @DevilmanI'll double check them again when i get back on the bike, if I'm getting a low reading on the terminals what could be the issue? -

@bluedog59 @TonyGee Thanks guys, everything is new on there so I don't think it would be that but I'll definitely double check them. It's strange how it happened after I messed about with the rev signal wire, I'm hoping that was coincidence. What voltage would you expect to see on the terminals on the starter relay? Thanks -
Suddenly bike won't start only a ticking starter relay?

@Wee Manwhen I jumped it i used a battery straight to the starter motor. I did try and bridge the terminals on the starter relay but nothing happened? Is that normal? Thanks mate -
I've got an electrical problem and wanted to ask you guys if anyone knew what might be up with it. I've went to start the bike today, it had one try of starting but on my second try the starter relay just kept clicking and is still like it. I tried 3 different batteries all with good charge. I have volts coming to the relay and down to the starter. I jumped the starter by itself and that was working fine. The bikes in neutral. I'm not sure on the side stand as that was removed but it's been starting fine for the last few weeks. The only only thing I did was mess with the rev pick up wire as I have a acewell speedo and was trying to get a better rev pick up but I've put that all as it was previously incase it was that and its still just clicking. Checked all the fuses too. I'm stuck on what else I could check, any help would be great.

I've finally get close to firing the bike up after a nearly 5 year build lol, I've got the carbs all cleaned and new seals in. I wanted to try and get a good base point from which to get the carbs set up roughly for now and wanted to check with you guys for any advice or how you have yours set up? It's a stock Gsxr 750 1990 engine with dual kn filters and a vance drag exhaust on it. Probably not the best set up but this is how it's turned out. Any help would be great. Here's a picture of it after a few years in the shed.

Thanks for the insight you guys, I appreciate your help, it's good to ask you lot as you've all had experience with this sort of thing and this is the only place I can really learn about things bike related, looking forward to getting started on this build now just need the new year to come round now

Going from this picture, if you removed the internal wastegate and opened this flap up permanently, wouldn't the manifold gas just pass straight through the turbo then build up in the wastegate if you mounted it like I mentioned at the beginning of the thread. I'm not sure how turbos are designed so maybe by the time it come out of this separate flap it's already passed through the turbo?
-
Thanks for clearing that up mate, I did think that the wastegate gas should come straight from the manifold, I've spoke to a few people and they all tell you different things sometimes so I'm just trying to make use of the different things I'm learning so far, I think I'll take off straight from the manifold then when I eventually get going on the bike. That's true 1460 I like to find out why things are like they are especially when it's something like a turbo because like you said just copying something without knowing how things work can make things worse for you. Thanks for clearing that up

I've been researching about external wastegates and noticed that some people run the wastegate gas through the turbo then from the exhaust flange into the wastegate then through a separate pipe? I've found that people remove the internal wastegate then weld a divider in the turbo housing then run two separate pipes from the exhaust flange one into a external wastegate and obviously the other is the exhaust pipe, I wanted to ask if this was a good set up compared to coming straight off the manifold? Here's a picture of the set up

Doing some turbo build research, best/easiest engine to use

Nice video duckndive those drag videos of yours look fast, I'm going to give it a try and hopefully make some noise at the end of it if it ends up firing up lol -

Lol sounds like something they I'd do clive, yeah I think they the best way, I just needed to know what parts I'd need, I think I got a better idea now though thanks to you guys, looking forward to making the manifold and plenum though, looks like my sort of thing -

I see what you mean 1460 I guess you need a base point to work from, i looked further and found that the wide band sensors actually come with their own independent reader so that gives me the answers I needed lol, I thought it was something that plugs into the bike wiring loom like in cars so that was my dummy mistake, I will definitely want one of these then as it'll give you a good idea and what the mix is like. I also found out now what 14:1 means lol. -

Lol I will do @no class, I looked into more and some people don't use o2 sensors by the looks, I'm guessing they maybe only used in injection fueling as carbs are just carbs you have to adjust them manually with the right jets Cheers clivegto -

That's fair enough 1460, I have been doing lots of research so far but there's always a few pieces to the puzzle that sometimes seem hard to find, I don't know anything about turbos but I'm keen to learn. -

Thanks captain I appreciate your help, what would the 02 sensor do and where do they usually go? Oh yeah lol I forgot about the gauge. What about any extra electronics? Do I need one of those fancy ignition units? -

Cheers clivegto, I know there's a lot of work involved in a project like this but roughly the things and parts I'd need would be... Bandit 12 engine with Bandit 12 carbs. Turbo parts Scaveng pump Lock up clutch Fuel pump And obviously the bike lol. Do I need any sort of extra electronics or ecu? Or just standard b12. Is there anything I've missed other than a lot of time and effort lol -

Cheers guys I appreciate the advice, I'm tempted to just try and get a whole bandit donors bike and then maybe sell off what I don't need then try and put the bits onto a gsxr frame, would you guys recommend a carb set up or go injection? I think I'd rather stay cards if I can. Also I see people mentioning about intercoolers? Is that a separate rad maybe for the turbo oil circuit? -
I'm planning on hopefully trying to build a turbo bike for my next build but after reading through this section on the forum there's a lot to learn and figure out, I thought I'd start with the basics on what engine is best to use? I've read that some need welded cranks, forged pistons and different oil pump gears, I don't have loads to spend on the build unfortunately so I want to ask what engine would be best to go for that would need minimal modifications? I don't want mega bhp as I'm not doing it for that, I'm just looking for the challenge and having a little fun at the end of the build actually works lol From what I've read below 200bhp seems to be on the lower end compared to some of your guys bikes. I'm thinking a bandit 1200 maybe? I want it to be safe too and not worry that something might go bang so if the engine modifications are needed then I will do them. I do have two 750 engines but I'm guessing they would be no good and not strong enough for a turbo
-
Lol oh yeah I see what you mean now, I just looked and it says it's from a gsx600f katana but it was an American listing so maybe the models are different over there or maybe the seller doesn't know what parts he's selling lol
-
I'm not 100% but I can take a picture, it's similar to the original gsxr 92 one but the dog bone link is a bit lower and makes the suspension more bouncy lol
-
Managed to fit one in my 750 wn, found it rock solid to start with but just changed the knuckle for a katana one and it's been working fine, I'm no suspension expert but it seems to work fine and I've rode it for 5 years with no issues
-
Nice thanks mate I appreciate that, I'm not 100% sure it's a crack but I think it is especially with it being on the other side, I guess it needs sorting though otherwise if the frame no good then it's a waste spending all my time building the thing lol
-
I'm getting the frame ready for powder coating and think I've noticed two cracks in the welds that hold the rear shock cross member thingy on, there on the under side, not sure what's best to do so thought I'd ask you guys. I thought maybe drilling out the end of the cracks then using a cutting disc cut into them a little then go over it with the tig? Any help would be great Cheers

Thanks Swiss I am a bit of a worrier lol but I guess it’s all a learning curve but some lessons are more expensive than others. Thanks for your advice
