mx13 Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 Hello I'm really interested is there noticable difference in using carburators heatshield blanket or so ? I mean any objective tests , or Regards Martin Quote
R1guy Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 Yeah, at bike nights/shows the crowds much prefer the look of “with hestshield” rather than “without “... Fact! 1 Quote
Guest YoshiJohnny Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 (edited) air cooled it's for looks more than anything as the barrels need space for air to pass through... if the shield is too close then the fuelling gets richer and loses power ever so slightly.. not noticably without a dyno... mounted so air can get through and go under the shield then the effect is negligable but there is no significant benefit engine wise...just keeps your beans cooler!! Oil cooled shield on its own is much the same but no power losses... the real benefits come with the rest of the kit...fairing gills and ducts with cold air feed tubes and side covers... this was markedly improved for power when combined as the engine produces better power with cold dense air... hope this answers your question YJ Edited August 22, 2018 by YoshiJohnny Quote
Gixer1460 Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 One thing often missed is these were 'usually' used in conjunction with a fairing, at a guess, to provide a fairly still air zone in the absence of an air box for carbs to function better - slightly higher pressure zone - whether the effects can be proven is debatable........ but 'Pops' did know his shit!
