colinworth79 Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Just wondered what oil people have used on freshly rebuilt engines . Going to run up my 1340 motor I've built , new rods , pistons and all bearings. Head has been used previously. Don't want to put good oil in and the bores glaze up . Quote
stockcar Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 either buy the cheapest basic 20w50 mineral oil you can find or get the likes of the Millers CRO 10w40 specific running-in oil used both at work with good results depending on build and customers preference Quote
Gixer1460 Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Yep - cheapest, nastiest oil from Tescos or Walmart etc. - but wouldn't use 20w-50 though as too viscous for a GSXR - only 10w-40. Run that for 50 - 100 miles and bin it with filter, then use better. Don't baby the motor either - use some revs but keep load low and you won't glaze the bores. Cheap oil doesn't have the friction reduction / long life additives and as you don't need long life , its perfect. Quote
Fula28 Posted December 23, 2017 Posted December 23, 2017 Same as these these guys, I've always used cheapest 10w/ 40 for 100-150 miles drain new filter ect ect. Worked a treat every time. Quote
