Kurf Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 Is there a way to check if valves are ok without removing the head? Compression test on my 1127 was ok but I think there might be something wrong with a valve at cylinder two ; at cold engine it sounds and feels like a pulse of “air” is forced back towards carbs. Captain Chaos Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 put piston 2 in TDC with valves closed, lock the crankshaft somehow (in 1st gear with locked rear wheel for example), blow air in cilinder through spark plug hole. You can now hear leaking valves through the carbs or exhaust. 3 Quote
Kurf Posted December 17, 2017 Author Posted December 17, 2017 Thanks Capt. Chaos. Will try that tomorrow Quote

Sounds like out of balance carbs. But try a leak down test as suggested to be sure. 1 Quote

Captain Chaos Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 adjust the valve clearances before balancing the carbs 2 Quote
Kurf Posted December 18, 2017 Author Posted December 18, 2017 Made something out of a sparkplug to put air pressure in the cylinder.. 2 Quote
nlovien Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 good thinking - if you do it again but weld a stub onto the other side and fit this to one of the opposing pistons (1 or 3 ) you can use this to "lock" the engine when you pump it up 2 Quote
