bernardo Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 First of all many thanks to all who gave tips on how to get started a few weeks ago. Well i finally got round to starting it up and it ran fine. However when you select gear it cuts out. I suspect the side stand switch even though it doesn't seem to matter if its up or down. So how do I bypass the switch? Also it doesn't want to start unless the battery is really fully charged so maybe there's a bad earth? It won't start if the battery is even slightly discharged. Where do I start looking? I'm electrically inept but do possess a multimeter. thanks Bernard Quote
teltwosheds Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 Well. If you don't have a wiring diagram, get one. Follow the wires and unplug them, try again if it still won't run in gear, bridge them together. You could spray the fook out of the switch, prob'ly crapped up. Quote
Madb Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 I removed my side stand circuit . Pain in the but. If you trace the wire from the side stand up you should come across a two pin plug and socket. Disconnect and short the plug onthe loom side. If it still dont fire maybe a bad earth . Quote
bikerdude02 Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 If that doesn't work, check your clutch switch. Quote
Madb Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 Was going mention clutch switch but ya beat me to it. But then it wouldnt start if intermittent either, so could be that. Hmmmm. Hate them safety switches. Quote
bernardo Posted November 10, 2016 Author Posted November 10, 2016 Thanks guys, God I hate electrics Quote
bernardo Posted November 10, 2016 Author Posted November 10, 2016 The thing is running but the battery has had a good charge, but again as soon as you engage gear (1st or 2nd) it cuts out. I remember the side stand switch was removed when i took it racing and I found where I think my mate shorted the circuit at the time. Joint looks perfect. I thought all the clutch switch did was stop you starting in gear. It really feels like a sidestand switch the ignition is cut so sharply. Is there anything else it could be? Quote
jameskat Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 It looks like there is a side stand relay which could be your problem, but without more info on your bike I can't be sure I am looking at the right diagram. Quote
Madb Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Does the neutral light go out when you out it in gear? If so then like Jameskat said. Maybe your relay. Follow the green wire. Quote
bernardo Posted November 28, 2016 Author Posted November 28, 2016 Well now, I did everything people suggested and nothing worked. I tried it again this weekend. Reved the nuts off it and banged it into gear..stayed running, tried 2nd stayed running. So I'm not saying it's cured, just it's stopped acting up. A good lesson in the power of perseverance. Big thanks for all your help. Bernard Quote
