JE 79mm High Comp Pistons Machined For Turbo

Recommended Posts

Mornin All, I am thinking of staying with 79mm bore to leave some meat for later but only forged pistons I can find at higher compression. This is for my 1200 bandit

My plan was but these 11:1 JE pistons if I can source in UK and then machine out top to drop compression. I have seen another thread where centre of crown was left as its thinnest there.

I will call a few companies today as internet searches seem to have got a lot worse since AI developed. Maybe it’s my internet use affecting the results

ideally I would like a 79mm turbo piston to drop in. That may be an oversized GSXR piston but not sure if pin height same?

this would save a rebore and to be honest, if I keep getting more carried away, the bloody thing will never get built (been here before with mini bike engine project that then became V8, that then became nothing!)

Any guidance much appreciated.

Whilst you know what engine you have, I / we don't so difficult to offer advice! :/

Haha that would help, 1200 bandit

LOL's in that case, seeing as you are resigned to boring cylinders anyway I'd punch it out to 80mm / 1216cc. Wider choice of pistons and CR available - even budget Busa pistons for low cost boosted use. MTC 10:1 turbo pistons known to have thick crowns to allow machining . . . . . . or just use high comp and add a spacer plate - its a bit ghetto but it works!

Cheers for reply, yes that seems way to go and Suzuki performance parts were super helpful on phone

This is what I did: MTC 81mm 10:1 compression and milled them down to 9:1. See this thread somwhere on page 10. Of course this is for the GSXR1127 so you need to recalculate for the bandit

Thanks for the info, I think that’s thread that got me thinking this way.

I have ordered the MTC10:1 pistons and they also split a pack of the APE valve guides for me as I only needed 8 so that’s a result. I was going to make but case of picking my battles. Sometime just because you can, doesn’t mean you should :D
