VJ Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 My bandit 12 engined teapot fighter has snapped an inlet valve, from what I can see a locknut came loose, the adjuster span out and the valve promptly snapped, I assumed it was carbs as ive had issues before and managed to limp it around on 3 cylinders for a while but Ive got the valve cover off at the moment and its definitely snapped an inlet valve stem. So what are my options and how much time/money will they set me back? I fucking love this bike but she's already cost me a fair bit in the last few months and its starting to get painful on the wallet now. Cheers John Quote
Captain Chaos Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 with some luck only the valve will need replacing. More realistic, piston and possibly head also f*cked. You will need to open her up and inspect the damage. Quote
dupersunc Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Most likely, cylinder head, piston and the big end bearing on that cylinder too. Sorry. 1 Quote
teltwosheds Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 VJ must stand for Very Jammy. If you rode it the valve must have bent above the guide before snapping and not dropped into the combustion chamber Quote
VJ Posted January 21, 2016 Author Posted January 21, 2016 I was riding and it dropped to 3 cyl, it then took me over a week of trial and error pissing around with spark and carb related stuff before I opened the lid to notice that a valve is snapped in half. Im fairly sure it'd run on 3 again if i bolted it back together now. Im just about to whip the head off for a full post mortem, If its suitably hilarious I may well post pictures. Cheers VJ Quote
VJ Posted January 21, 2016 Author Posted January 21, 2016 (edited) so, snapped and bent valve, cracked valve guide, cracked combustion chamber, dented piston. Fuck me these engines are strong considering it did 50 odd miles of commuting in that state Edited January 28, 2016 by VJ 1 Quote
markfoggy Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 If it's dented a piston, it will have flat spotted the big end shells as well, Sorry 1 Quote
