GS 750 cam chain guides

Advice please on checking the cam chain guide and cam chain tensioner guide on my 77 gs750.

are these prone  to wear ?

what needs to be checked on them to make sure they are ok to put back ?

Sort of depends on use really! If it's a low mileage, been stored in a barn for 30 years then they may be ok but rubber compounds + oil + heat + age = inbuilt obsolescence! Look for hardened and cracked rubbing surfaces and if in doubt, chuck it out! as a broken tensioner guide will make a mess of any engine!

Would the same apply to any NOS guides advertised ? 
as in becoming brittle  etc

If you have the spare money, for piece of mind get some new OEM ones from Robinson's 

I would think most second hand ones will be showing there age

If genuine NOS they'll have the advantage of not being heat cycled or oil soaked so better than old 'good' second-hand pieces! Finding them is the problem!

Good luck with that as both listed as order / out of stock and the rear one is £350+ so big OUCH!

I know I've not re built a GS motor in some years (at least 8 years) but f##k me I thought at the time I think the where about £80 each APX but £350 is taking the p##h
