BigPhil Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Are these standard cams? The engine is an 1170 and has a welded clutch basket, heavy duty clutch springs and slotted cam sprockets. So the cams might be fancy too :-) Quote
markfoggy Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Well they were standard, that worm drive for a rev cable is a sure sign. But, slotted wheels aren't standard which suggests they've had a bit of a grind. Get the vernier out, it's measuring time. You'll probably have to cross reference with Piper and Kents web sites to get an idea.Other clues could be in the rockers, inlet particularly. There an oil hole on them with a pronounced upturn dimple that needs grinding back even for stage 1's, plus if it looks like the bike's had a lot of valve guide work on the exhausts suspect a bit more. Stage 2's need the valve guide seals sending into the head to get extra lift, rubbed out or missing guide seals is a sure sign. 2 Quote

BigPhil Posted November 19, 2015 Author Posted November 19, 2015 That's ok, they're really cheap to replace... :-(That is 40% of what I paid for the whole bike... Quote
KATANAMANGLER Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Contact Phil Joy he can resurface them for a decent price. He has done a few cams and rocker pads for me and always does a great job. 1 Quote

I reckon i'll be sending him my rockers and even the cams for some TLC. If the post from here doesn't cost a kidney. 1 Quote
Gammaboy Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 I looked at getting a set of rockers resurfaced here - it was actually cheaper to buy new Quote
BigPhil Posted November 23, 2015 Author Posted November 23, 2015 (edited) I looked at getting a set of rockers resurfaced here - it was actually cheaper to buy new I spoke to Phil and quoted me £25 a rocker. That's a lot cheaper than new ones. He suggested giving the cams a skim too as they are a bit worn. Edited November 23, 2015 by BigPhil spelling Quote
Leino Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Intake cam looks like a stock EF part to me. Quote

They are worth the money, even if it costs more than new OEM parts. Quote
johnr Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 check the ends of the cams, most tuners will engrave the grind and their initials onto the cam ends, its surprising what you can find when you dont realise what you had! Quote
johnr Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 although slotted sprockets might just have been used to get the timing absolutely bang on perfect. 1 Quote
