Neveragain55 Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 (edited) Hi Gang, Here's my new dilemma........ I'm stuffing a 89 GSXR1100 Slingshot engine into a 79 GS 750 frame with an upside-down front end & wider rear swing arm from a 93 GSXR750, and I'm using the wiring loom from an 89 GSXR1100. I want to use the speedometer/tachometer setup from a Suzuki Bandit 1200 but their digital, without the mechanism to use a cable. I want to use this one: Or this one: The speedo/tachometer set up for these 89 motors is a cable that drove the speedometer, and an electrical plug for the tachometer, where the Bandits are fully digital without the cable mechanism, and I don't want to use the early Bandit speedometer/tachometer setup that had that goofy gas gauge in the middle. I "don't" want to use this: Here's my question, is it possible to house a speedometer & tachometer from a stock (see photo below) 89 speedo/tach housing into the housing of a Bandit speedo/tach? Or, is it possible to somehow covert what I have to "accept" the fully digital Bandit speedometer/tachometer setup? I absolutely hate the "offset" housings that Suzuki made during the later 80's into the 90's and it won't look right on the bike I'm building. I never liked the way these things looked: The reason why I want to do this is because (for me) the bullet or "cone" shaped speedometer/tachometer housings are the prettiest, and I love that retro look. Here are the front forks that are mounted on the frame: If this can't be done, then do any of you know of a setup (that has that cone shaped, retro look) that would work? As always, thanks in advance. Edited January 16, 2020 by Neveragain55 spelling correction Quote
Dezza Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 Use the Blandit 12 Mk 2 sprocket cover and the speedo sensor (used on many Suzukis) and wire in as for Blandit Mk2. Alternatively, you can do a cable clutch conversion at the same time and use a Blandit 600 Mk2 or a late model 750 teapot cover, both of which will accommodate a speedo sensor. You will then have to faff about with the sprocket nut to get it to work with the sensor. Some GSXR 1100s (e.g. slabbies) have an M6 threaded hole in the centre of the output shaft which obviously makes this easy but I do not know if the K (89 model) has this. Quote
Neveragain55 Posted January 16, 2020 Author Posted January 16, 2020 Thank you very much, I'll definitely look into this, much appreciated. Quote
fatblokeonbandit Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 Done it several times, the easiest way is to buy a complete mark 2 bandit loom and switch gear, and use that with, like dezza said, a teapot or mk2 bandit sprocket cover, drill amd tap the noutput shaft and bolt the speedo sensor trigger to the shaft, over in Trumpland where you are all the bits will be dirt cheap. Neveragain55 Posted January 16, 2020 Author Posted January 16, 2020 Wow...... That's a beautiful bike, and thanks for the advice, I'm definitely going to go that route.... Quote
davecara Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 As said, run a bandit pick up and sprocket cover. That’s how I’ve got my EFE running Quote
