Hi Everyone, Just rejoined at last. I bought a Katana 1100 engine a while ago and would like to know a bit more about it.The number on is 702-102189, it is the original black, the carbs are same black, has a 24 bolt cam cover and alloy finned end caps. So could any one give me any idea what I have before I start on it. Thank in advance.

I take it you mean U702-?

Usually 1983 - 1984 make; welded crank by factory, big end rotor-wise.

There's also a V702- engine series, but I don't have any info about these.

I don't profess to be an expert on these but weren't Kat engines silver stock with plain chromed cam caps? Also 24 bolt cam cover = early motor then 20 bolt then the 10 bolt EFE cover along with the big taper crank? Didn't know 'proper' kats available with that crank?

The engine colour depends on model, market and year of make. So you can find proper Kat engines which are black, but kitkatman's engine might also be from a 1100 ES for example.

Hi, thanks for the replies, I have spoke to people in the past and a few have said it may be an ES or SD, at least know I know what year it is. All I have to do is decide whether to re paint it black or silver as its going into an ET frame.

sz were silver, sd black, early were 20 bolt cam covers, later ones had 24 bolt to rectify problems with oil leaks from the cover where the camchain tunnel is.
