  1. Hi guys, after 2 1/2 years rebuilding my GS550, my carbs have decided to start mess me around. I have cleaned and rebuilt them (ultra sonically). I have colour tuned them to get them as close as possible, but now for some reason the bike willl either not start without turning the idle screw in more and full choke, or with full choke that revs to about 3k, settles to 2k, then will suddenly burst back up to 3-4k. I know most most will say it's air getting in somewhere, but how can they be perfectly fine one minute, then do the above, Slowly losing patience, any decent / recommended shops around Bodmin, Cornwall, UK who can sort this out and then MOT it? Dont want to change to slide carbs, trying to keep as original as possible.
  2. Yes I agree @GSRacer. Just need to sort out a chrome front muddy and chainguard.
  3. Cheers @KATANAMANGLER. Will give em a shout. Think the can should be a slimline, or even a new 4 into 2!
  4. Thanks @vizman It's what it came with. Wouldn't have a clue what to swap it out for except the std 4-2.
  5. Thanks @captain chaos. Yep I've got a couple on my GSX 750ES I will 'borrow' for the MOT and replace with GS versions when I find one or two I've got an original 4-2 pipe that's a bit ratty. I could do with the silencers being either opened and the baffles sorted, or cut off and replaced. Just need to find someone localish and cheap!
  6. I swapped this for my totally knackered MG Midget 2 and 1/2 years ago. I had to totally strip and rebuild. Brakes were solid, carbs full of old stale fuel that was like glue. Paintwork was totally trashed. Seat trashed, Just wished I'd taken pictures when it arrived. Just need to balance carbs this week and ready for its MOT. Also need a seat lock, because I think it will fail the MOT due to an unsecured seat
  7. Nice @agemax. Sent you a pm for a quote Live localish (dobwalls)
  8. @Jonboy, did @agemax do your carbs?

    Engine mounts

I tend to look at cmsnl for the part numbers then over to Robinsons to see if it's available. Check prices and away you go. They don't show my GS550, but I bought loads from them for it.

    Gsx750es

Loving that exhaust. Did you get it made, or is it a modded std one? @Enrico Bit confused on the front end swap, is it a TL or Slingshot that will drop straight in nearly!

    Gsx750es

That will be the remains of the petrol from over the years of just sitting there. If you are changing the rear end you will probably need a different length chain, so dremmel a link out

    GS550E

Bugger, just seen your post @busa ash. Off to Mill Autos tomorrow then. Won't do any harm to change them. Possibly 34 yrs old dont suppose you know what year I need.

Were the carbs drained do you know. If not the fuel that's left in will have dried up and blocked the smaller ports. You may get it running without a clean! Good luck which way you go.

    Gsx750es

With my 550 I had the same. I have rebuilt the engine so running wasn't an issue for me. Depends what you are going to do. If it was me, the fact that it turns over and it goes through the gears would be okay for me. I'd just get on with it. If it's sat that long you will need to get your carbs stripped and cleaned for sure.
