  1. Welcome to OSS....nice project build, i think this is the second Martek Pike peak bike build we have had.,  but i might be mistaken. looking forward to seeing this progress.

Have you got a design plan for it..?

    that's not a 1989 frame but a 1990 (L) or 1991 (M). The 1989 750 does not have the adjustable swingarm spindle thingy.

L has glued on tank rubbers, M has them screwed on. The M rear section is also wider and has an extra pipe near the battery.

    Hes not wrong xD

Built quite a few bikes over the years from Z1R 1440 with twin webbers  Kats through Gsxr 1100 turbo to big note turbo and supercharged Busa’s

been toying with a  Gia/ Spondon KAT for a while called down 6 weeks ago and they were closed……. We all know why now

so I bought a Kat frame and bodywork 3 weeks ago got it home and prepared for the build. The idea being to build a restomod with a turbo Gsxr motor.

all was going to plan then i heard of a brand new Martek frame kit for sale .F@k it change of plan againCollected during the week

need a new bike bench due to other unfinished projects here it is

Dam thats a sexy frame thou., luv the brushed look. I think polished frames have had their day.

  4. Has anyone swapped a 750 slabbie arm for a slabbie 1100 arm.....from my understanding, all u need is the linkage and dogbones from the 1100 arm.
    Is it a straight swap..?

Future project mind you, ive got enough on my plate atm, but over the years ive collected soo much crap i need to stick them on something.

Ive got a mismatch of original and performance parts lying around and thought id slap it all together as a rolling chassis to see if i want to make something from it.

To make the most of the M-Unit and to make it all fit neatly without looking like an octopus wrestling a scarf, a rewire unfortunately is your best bet. In the Motogadget advertising bumf, they make it looks like it cuts half the wiring out, fine if you have a minimalist setup (head/tail lights, an ecu and coils). In real world, you'll probably have just as much wires.

     Simple loom see below.....

    gsxr711wiring.gif.c0361f7aa37d16f83d2f7f9c1888fd5c.thumb.gif.39a987190062b1993f7f09bfb9bb6280.gif.e7b360a228a7a606deacb32e92838586.thumb.gif.f276cc268c73a349ec4c7af9f95fa5b2.gif

Spot on.....wat Weeman said. There a great unit for starting from scratch projects but otherwise u end up using just as much cable, the only difference is u eliminate fuse box and other small bits and can use thinner wire

I have spent quite abit of time over at martek over the years and speak with the lads there time to time, and have gotten to see builds, frames and things first hand, when you here a few sides to a story its funny. a bit like this one so what your saying is basically nothing happened

Chris, I have a few friends waiting for parts to be made and they have even sent him parts to be replicated. Yet no response when they try calling or emailing. Now they just wants their parts back but still no response.

Do you think thats professional way to run a company...? Im asking you cause u obviously are happy with his service. Im not doubting his workmanship or engineering skills, He has the most equipped private workshop in the country,  but the common trend is unless u live within a stones throw of the place and drop in every week to check on ur order, nothing gets done.

Im in Austria, my mates have orders from the Netherlands and France. Its easier to palm someone off wen they cant rock up to ur door in 5min and start asking questions. im not sure how close u live to Mark but i bet its a dam lot closer than me and my friends.

Have u ever had anything produced overseas with the fear of paying for something and nothing turning up...? Well thats how we all feel on this side of the pond.

Oh dear. I know someone with a project there. Been there 2years and not started, but now they're building bikes they haven't sold...I see they are making WP tanks themselves now.

They've got some skills and kit there, but some people just arent business or customer orientated.

Yeah he tried to exchange the guy Martin frame kit to a mate of mine for his Yoshi SP build that was featured in PS mag a few months back, my mate agreed and said let me know wen urve finished the frame and ill drop it off......a few weeks later Mark rang him and said can u drop off the bike and ill get the frame kit to you in a few weeks, my mate told him to Fuck off, he aint stupid, ur getting nothing without the frame in his hands.

My mate was going to sell me the kit cause he is not well and not building bikes anymore. It was a good deal everyone was happy. After it al fell through Mark contacted me and asked if i still wanted the frame kit....HAHAHAHA, i was like NO, i was only helping my mate out cause he wanted the cash and not the frame kit

2 weeks later Adam from Iconic motorcycles in California contacted my mate and he bought it straight up. now its on its way to the US.

Its a dam shame, he has the most high tech workshop in the UK, with CAD designs, 5axis machines, Hydraulic press moulds for tanks and 3D printing but cant run a business if hes life depended on it. The shop could be soo much more productive if he had a proper manager to run it.

Il'l never use him no matter how good he is.

I have all the suppliers i need, regardless how good he is

  8. what they said. Used to repair tanks alot. Flush out with detergent a few times. I used to drill a small pin hole in the corner of the tank to drain all water and chemicals out, then just spot weld it up after i was done.

Abit like ur clothes dryer water condensation catchbottle. they all have a big and small hole to drain the water completely out. thats where i got the idea from.

I stick a hair dryer in the filler cap to dry it out afterways. Job done.

Well lad, just doing some digging here, tell me more about your preference for Ignitech over Dyna, I was away from class and missed that lesson, I remember Boyer and then Dyna being the next go to ignition. I want to get rid of the points on the gs1000 and thought I would ask you first. ;)

Well for one, ive had a coil burn out on me at the track...That cost me enough in itself, but with a 600mile round trip and 2 trackdays booked the following days. I lost more than enough cash.

But after cutting and pulling apart the heavy duty polymer casing on the coil i found the connection to the tension leads from the internals was as thick as ur hair....fucking rubbish. All that insulation to cover something smaller than a hair follicle. WTF...!!!!!

Second was the dyna ignition rattled itself to bits even thou it was cushioned and wrapped. Waste of my fucking time, second one thats done it to me now. I couldnt belive it. Its not like the racetrack is bumpy the like the road for fucks sake....so whether this has anything to do with production moving to Mexico i have no idea but i will never buy that crap again.

For less money i bought stick coils, a Ignitech ECU, ignition pick up and a qik shifter. They are designed specific to tailor for 2 strokes, 4 strokes and 2 or 4 or 6 cylinders. Age does not matter, they have or can make connection for most bikes. You can request the original ECU plug so its a simple plug and play unit.

You download the map program from their website and can order all the bits and pieces u require...eg: spare electrical connections, qik shifters, different size tie rods for the gear lever, temp sensors, lambda sensors, TPS sensors and attachments, ignition pick ups for various bikes, Harness/loom cable, pulse rotors, shift lights......everything u need to rewire ur existing set up.

And with the pick ups they have u can pretty much convert any bike to electronic ignition. I havnt had a single problem with them or their products.

Im on my way to converting the track bike to electronic ignition....i kept it with Dyna coils to comply with classic racing regulations, all it means now is im eligible for points and championship standings. which is fine cause i wasnt going to have time to compete in all the races anyway.

    Hope this helped.

The slabby sump has the capacity to switch the right side cooler fitting (when sitting on the bike) to the side of the sump by removing the blanking plug and switching. You can use either banjos or whatever fittings you have to get the cooler pipes in close. Whatever sump you choose, I agree that the cooler fittings are not going to be the lowest point. I recently had an exhaust made. It needed to come in really close to fit inside the fairing. The bloke that did it ended up using a Blandit sump as it has a space so the pipes can be tucked right up. This was a better option than both slabby and slingshot sumps, as I provided all three to try.

What Dezza said....i did the same research. But since ur not running an exhaust it will come down to preference i guess
