That thought had crossed my mind, unfortunately it has pockets underneath. Perhaps I could fill them with something and fit risers

Hayabusa’s run two top yokes. The lower of the two grips the forks and the stem, the higher of the two has the bars. The top one doesn’t need to do any fork / stem work, just steers the one below it.

Not using Hayabusa parts but to make something up. Just another option.

  2. I’ve swapped between regular and iridium’s a few times. Mixed riding, drags and dyno, never noticed a difference.

Im told they have a longer life, but my bikes either don’t do high mileage or other get changed when they are in bits because they are a shit to get too.

    Don’t bother with iridium’s anymore.

    anyone converted a 1400 to carbs ?

There was one out here running GSXR600 carbs but I think it took quite a bit of work. Standard 14’s have odd spacing and smaller throttle body’s than a lot of bikes. Great for grunt but not an easy upgrade.

Have to look out for crash damaged 1400s. They do pop up here and there. The 750 Kat 1400 project had a Yamaha Engine in it to begin with. That's just wrong on many levels. However, it was done quite well. Luckily a crashed 1400 was within reach so all worked out well in the end.

I was bidding on a few at the auctions with no success. I mentioned it in another group. Someone contacted me to say they’d crashed theirs and parked it up. Smashed in tank, headlight, no clocks etc.  I put it back on the road cheap as poss with bits I had to check it out. Strong motor, 3rd gear a bit louder than the others. Done a few long haul runs to see how it go’s. Owes me the equivalent of £1,345 as it now sits. (It’s a LOT rougher than it looks)

It’s a long way back in the queue but I do have 2 ET frames and sets of trim etc, so threads like this really interest me.

their is a few 1400 owners who fit an external fuel pump, theirs plenty of room under the seat for one.

More often 14 owners are fixing, cleaning, changing the pumps internal filters than the pumps. Running an external pump just makes an external filter a natural choice and removes another issue.

Probably easier to run a separate fuel pump instead of in tank like the 1400. Not a lot of room in the gsx 1100 without major mods. Also loose a bit of fuel capacity. Much easier to transfer bodywork to 1400 frame. But then it's a 1400 with 1100 bodywork on...again not that straight forward.

    From my limited knowledge….

    # External pump shouldn’t be a drama. Early Hayabusa’s used an external one, similar early Gen-1’s changed to internal after the first couple of years.

    # GSX14’s own tanks have a good size 22ltr tank, however, it has a quite large internal neck. Punching out the breather hole give an extra 1.5 - 2ltrs. I know the 14 tank isn’t a proper Old Skool ET one but it’s similar and the size is nice to have.

    # 14’s aren’t an easy lump to find big hp with, they respond well to a full system like a Akra / Yoshi Cyclone, and a dyno mapped Powercommander (flashing the ECU is a bit limited on 14’s).  Cams are next but not cheap. After that you’re digging deep.  A have a few Busa’s / a B-King etc that walk away from mine when the pace is up, but the 14 is so nice to ride, smooth low down grunt, the motor would really suit a retro build that’s not about winning races.

A 14 powered ET / EX / EF / Kat certainly appeals to me.

Thanks for the replies guys, but I live in Oz there are only about a dozen bikes on this island continent and less shops. I'll keep looking.

I’m in rural Australia so I feel your pain with spares.

I’ve done OK with Revzilla in the states, not cheap but they have access to huge stocks and are easy to deal with, I’ve used them 3 or 4 times this year.

Looking on their site 78 GS1000’s do trigger a few “not available” though.

    Bugger!

Well building a bike to such a clean condition including an engine swap will never be an easy job indeed.

That one does sound like an ideal combo though

Yeah, I think there’s a bit more work gone into it than some folk realise at a glance, it’s very well done.

My comment was aimed more at the original post by Ronney concerning what engine mounts to use.

  9. 18” back and front.

Cant remember the size but from memory they were early GSXR size. Tyres a bit close to the chain but never caused a problem.  As already mentioned the numbers aren’t everything, one tyre can be different to another even if the sizes are written the same.

The EZ uses the ally swingarm, right? That's a great swing arm. The Kaw guys use them as an upgrade for their KZ units. It'll take a wide wheel quite easilly.

I’ve got a few. The last one I picked up recently was a bit rough and had some DIY paddock stand bobbins mounts on it, but I was told it came out of a K*wasaki where it was, as you said,  used as an upgrade.

  11. Ran a few bikes up the strip. Nothing amazing as they were mostly streetbikes that needed to fill other roles, always ride in, ride home. Ran a heap of 10.3’s but seemed to find my limit around there.

Recently bought another bike that’s going to be very much aimed at the strip. It’s currently on a bit of a diet and getting a few mods.

Sadly this Suzuki is a couple of years too new to be on here.

I will still follow this thread with interest though.

EDIT:  No great numbers I can brag about, but this was an old slip with my daily commuter / tourer that might just scrape in as a Watercooled Old Skool….

EDIT-2:  That Bandit is waaaaay cool.  I have one sat doing nothing here, this thread is giving me expensive ideas.

  12. Just thinking out loud..

When you play mix and match with the gears to increase pressure, is there a pressure relief valve that limits it ?  Obviously you benefit from running max valve pressure and more flow but is there a valve that limits gains if left untouched  ?

    Any one got any input?

Was thinking of putting a hayabusa swingarm on my 1993 1100w

    Is it hard or easy?

    Dropin or modify everything?

    Dragracing would be the purpose!

I’m guessing you’re going to run extensions?  Plenty available for the Busa but the arms are pretty heavy with the big ugly casting.

  14. It’s good to build something different, I approve of that, but it’s a lot of work if it’s not something that’s standout WOW!!

    Compatible = Bandit, GSXR, GSX-F.

Watercooled / injected…. well, it’d have to be a Busa lump for some DIY B-King butchery.

Hi tony . Did you have to modify the blocks to fit ? mine were machined well but as you can see the profile doesn't match the original mounts, if you bought the correct length shocks that would take all the fun out :tu. Took the wheels off today for powder coating along with the headlight brackets i cut down , also top yoke is getting a few mm off as not much thread for the stem nut/washer , will put some more pics up soon once ive got bit more done . Thanks for your encouragement on my project (y)

Mine went straight on. It was a while back but I don’t remember any dramas, 10 minute job.  Took me a while to get used to them, the riding position and steering feel etc all felt odd initially, now it feels normal and a stock 14 feels like a chopper to me, I wouldn’t go any higher on the bike that’s using them.        I keep an eye out for a 14 arm for another project I have but they aren’t common or cheap here.

might try the the busa lock up route.

I have 4 here at the moment. The Busa clutch takes a lot of abuse but hard launches are let down by that awful BTL but that’s an easy fix as I’m sure you know.  I assume you mean Gen-1 or 2. The 3 has a very complicated power-assist clutch that folk are retro fitting a modded Gen-2 unit to.

  17. Thanks for the updates redgs1000. I’m enjoying watching the build.

Im running lift blocks on one of my borderline OSS bikes.

Have’nt tried different shocks yet, they took a little getting used to. Going from a 190/50 to a 200/50 or 190/55 wasn’t enough lift, adding the blocks with a taller tyre was too much so now I’m on blocks and back to a 190/50.

Internet experts tell me to just get the right length shocks…. LOL.
