  1. I'm looking to replace the standard Suzuki hotplate "cooler" with an Earl's cooler. I was thinking the 5"x8"x2" would replace the stock one or the 5"x13"x2". Anyone got experience on these? It's going to be for a touring bike, used in urban environments two-up, mild cams only. Help?
  2. Thanks to all, and I'll pretend to know what shunt type regulators are!
  3. Sorry to hear that those who may think they're in the "free world" aren't under just as much threat as those of us caught within Trump's cult takeover of our government. But back to the actual item, as an adult. I had heard of problems long-term with the mighty 1150's electrical generating system. Were they just old wives tales? I've already looked into higher-powered stators. And I did look here - I just didn't find any authoritative statements; there's a lot to go through, or I thought, since we are a community, I'd just ask. Wrong thing?
  4. I have heard stories for years about the stators and voltage regulators on GS1150's going bad. Is this a real problem or an old wives tale? Worth replacing early with a Dick's seiup? Same with certain connections to the voltage regulator...true? If so, which ones?
  5. No, I mean (US) GS1100S and (US) GS1100...and what are the WM widths?
  6. What are the Wm widths for the '82-'83 Katanas and GS1100's and are they the same?
  7. I had the answer to this from Old Skool but lost it: what is the accepted size of Earl's oil coolers to replace the standard waffle iron on a 1986 GSXR1100? I'd like a bit more cooling, but I hear you get that with an Earl's anyway.
  8. As it turns out, I have a local dealer who has a set of Brembo calipers from a Guzzi Norge that we're going to fit. Need to make a bracket, that's all (we hope).
  9. I have been told that it is possible to lift the cylinder heads on GS1150's and Katanas without removing the motor from the frame. Is this true?
  10. We all know about Pat Hennen's winning ways on board the Suzuki square four 500, but didn't he race Suzuki four-stroke bikes as well?
  11. All this sonds really good, EXCEPT, and I'm gonna say it again, Pierrre DesRoches did an article in Cycle years ago where he made anti-dive AND suspension work, and I'm still looking for that. I appreciate that many have disabled it. I appreciate that many feel it is unnecessary. That said, does anyone have a link to the article?
  12. Is there a how-to on improving the anti-dive system? I remember Pierre DesRoches did an article for Cycle (?) and laid it out, but I can't find it now. Anyone got a link back to it? Anti-dive can work, you know....
  13. The Suzuki 1150 motor stock has fairly small pipes leading to that waffle iron they call an oil cooler...when you fit an Earl's, the fittings and pipes are bigger ID. Is there a problem with oil pressure after fitting the Earl's (or other) cooler? I know it's not high pressure, but....?
  14. Inazumrob, do you mean that the GSX600F wheel/discs fit on an 1150 or do you mean switch the legs from a GSX600F onto the 1150 tubes. or....?
  15. Matt, but you don't say, how did it work out? Do you do oil temp on the bike, and if so, what difference did it make?
  16. Isn't the upper the radiator and the lower just the oil cooler?
  17. GSX1100E, no, I have braided steel lines, recently trued discs, fresh linings...and I still don't like the braking. I know it can't be my TL1000R or refitted GSXR with 6 piston calipers, but I need better stopping. That's why I'm considering getting a bracket made to adapt Brembo (at least) 4 piston calipers.
  18. My GS1150 fiended its stock CDI box.....I was able to ride it back to the dealer (90 miles on 2 cylinders..). Got a call from them the next week, "Come and get it". When I asked what the bill was they said "We just put on a spare box we had sitting around." I asked "From which bike?". They said "Don't know, but it runs fine." I rode the bike like that for three years, and realized right away that the old box was faulty for quite a while. Conclusion: If you can find another Suzuki box cheap, try it. It might work. I only replaced it because I got a "friendly" price on the correct OEM. By the way, bike ran exactly the same.....just my 2 pence.
  19. A smaller bore master cyl.? I would've guessed a larger bore one. Why smaller?
  20. It appears that the nubs into which you screw the windshield screws are no longer available for the GSXR1100 86/87. I was wondering if the GS1150 ones are a substitute?
  21. Are there any bolt-on or nearly bolt-on 4 (or six?) piston calipers that will fit an '85 Suzuki GS1150 using the standard fork legs AND discs?
  22. Bluedog, I think you might have something there, given the heat-retention problems that the TL-R has. That's one of the reasons why that air compressor rear shock didn't work so good; heat makes for a lousy work environment. I'm planning on a bigger oil cooler than a TL-S and a TL-s radiator with a bigger fan.
  23. Why? Why does the TL-S (and the SV1000) have an upper radiator and a lower oil cooler and the TL-R have (what looks like) two radiators or an upper radiator acting as a header tank?
  24. Can someone give me the dimensions of the TL-S radiator please?
