My 88J slingy was filthy so i decided to give it a good wash with the pressure washer , like a twat i wasnt thinking and instead of just doing the wheels and swinger i got carried away and instead of doing the engine with a sponge etc i did the engine too, anyway now it wont start, turns over OK ,i've had the plugs out and there's no spark...wheres a good place to start looking at to check and dry out/clean first ? and what could the likely culprit be?

Still struggling to find a replacement cooler for my bike, loads of coolers out there but most of them have the wrong distance between the top mounting hole centres - i'm looking for 11cm between centres most are less, i;m guessing the height of the cooler is less important than the width ( because of top mounting cooler line distance) ...there are a few 1100 curved coolers out there that might suit but would the curved cooler fit my bike, 88 gsxr750J ?

  5. Thanks...yeah thats what i thought, there are a handful of used ones on the bay, will it have to be for a 750 or will an 1100 fit ? ,and is it a straightforward job to swap over?
  6. Noticed a puddle of oil under my 88J slingshot this morning, looks like the oil cooler has sprung a leak at left side bottom corner, is there any tips on how to repair this or will i have to source a new one?...Thanks.

I have attended this event at east Kirby for the past few years ,i previously got tickets from Skellingthorpe and district MCC...been searching how to get tickets for this years do on 4th may but cant seem to find any info on where to get tickets from, you can i think sign in on the day but to avoid queues i've always pre-booked, anyone advise with any info please?...its a really good run with loads of interesting stuff on display, oh and the lanc usually gets fired up for a taxi in the afternoon.

  14. I have used Caswell sealant in the past on carbon fibre tanks with good results, quite expensive but i spose you gets what you pays for.

I've Noticed a very light ticking noise coming from the right side of the top end on my 88J, to be honest its probably been there a while and i've only just taken notice ,its only really noticeable at idle and isnt intrusive enough to be heard when riding the bike, i'm guessing slack valve clearance or camchain whats more likely chaps?
  17. My Tacho has suddenly decided to only work when the lights are switched off , any advice as to what to check welcomed....ta.

Stripped the fairing off and had a proper look , the pipe is OK thank god... oil was seeping out of the bottom of the filter, looks like there was a bit of grit or something stopping a proper seal, simply unscrewed the filter about half an inch cleaned round the seal and retightened and then topped up the oil ,jobs a good'n and no harm done hopefully. I'll need to get myself a proper oil filter wrench, the old filter was a bastard to get off which is why i resorted to the screwdriver method in frustration...lesson learned.

Changed the oil and filter on my 88j yesterday ,took it for a spin this afternoon and i have an oil leak, checked the sump plug and filter for tightness and both OK, then noticed that oil was weeping from the left hand ( looking from front of bike) bottom oil cooler pipe union where it bolts onto engine, like a twat i must have damaged it when i took off the old filter ,i struggled to get it off so foolishly resorted to hammering a screwdriver through it to get it started ,must have gone straight through the other side and pierced the pipe. Is it a straightforward like for like replacement when i get hold of a spare ?...just a matter of draining the oil and unbolting the pipe at engine end and top of oil cooler?...any tips welcome.

  22. Can anyone recommend a good matching substitute for Suzuki ''pearl cool white '' paint for my 88j slingy?...RS paints quote over £30 for a 400ml rattle can.
  23. Quick question from a novice in these matters...will a set of carbs off a 1990 slingy bolt straight onto a 88J ?
