SRM Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 Can anyone please assist Apologies if this has been done, I have searched the threads and cant find the relevant info The bike is a 1986 GS500E Four Cylinder Italian Import, a sleeved version of a 550 for the Italian market I am looking at replacing the coils as one has blown, having spoken to Dynatek, they don't have any info on the bike, I have assumed rightly or wrongly I can use the same as a GS550 whatever that may be Thanks in advance Quote
Jaydee Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 Should be okay with 3 ohm (green) dyna coils as they are pretty much universal on an inline four. Anything with less ohms, 2.2ohm (grey) or 1.5ohm (red) for example will run hotter as they offer less resistance to the spark. Quote
Dezza Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 Save yourself a whole load of cash and buy some 2nd hand 3ohm coils instead, either as used on Suzukis or others. Kawasaki ones are good (the ones used on ZZR-1100s and a whole lot of other models) as the leads are easily changable. There is little advantage using dyna coils except for space with those dinky little ones. In my experience the green ones are prone to cracking. Quote
CockneyRick Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 Have to agree, whils't they are good coils, i've had 2 sets crack. Don't stop me using them though Quote
