1981 GSX250 fork oil ?

Afternoon, hoping that someone can point me in the right direction from actual experience pleez.

I need to replace at least one fork seal, the Haynes manual says to use a 50/50 mix of 10w30 and ATF. However, reading around, the concensus seems to be that dedicated fork oil didn't exist back then and it's better to use that.

Is that true ? I've read reports saying that regular 10w30 engine oil is no good as it froths ? I don't want a fork oil that would be thinner than the recommended 50/50 mix but there are so many viscosities around, what weight would I actually need, 15 ?

Very confused, all advice from actual experience very welcome !

Cheers,

Rifty
