Dukeman Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 (edited) Katana with 1230 revs at 4500 rpm at 100km /hr in top gear seems very high. At 6500rpm it's doing 160km/hr Does this seem right? Edited September 8, 2017 by Dukeman Quote
Dukeman Posted September 8, 2017 Author Posted September 8, 2017 Kat 1230 - 17/18 rims - 520 chain 17/46 sprockets - is this even close to standard? So I can go lower on the rear will 1 tooth make much difference? Quote
Dukeman Posted September 8, 2017 Author Posted September 8, 2017 Looking at the gear cage site 15/42 is standard for an 1100 as I have 17/46 it is actually higher geared than standard Site say bike should be at 3700 but I'm doing around 4000 - 4500 (hard to watch on small straights) Might drop rear to 42 Quote
Captain Chaos Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 are you sure the tacho is accurate? On my Slingy it shows 1000 too much for example. Quote
arnout Posted September 10, 2017 Posted September 10, 2017 Yup.. Like CC writes tachos on old Suzukis are often "optimistic", but aside from that I've always found the stock gearing on GSXs really -impractically- short. (From standstill quickly shift up to 5th and leave it there for 90% of the time. Lots of gear changing in city traffic, and revving the nuts off on the motorway. ) On my bikes I'm using 17/43 with a 18" rear wheel, which I'm happy with. Quote
