Sparky62 Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 First topic for me - single sided GS1000 I bought this year and converting to Wes Cooley colours and checking all of the engine over. Engine done and waiting for seat recover. Have found older pictures of this bike on the site from Wraith Have a slight weep from shaft seal on GS1000G - the manual is not clear on this on whether a replacement can be done with engine in bike (tap a self tapper into it and extract? I realise this can only be done if seal is pressed in from outside. I can remove swing arm and rear wheel but just wanted to ask if shaft seal can be replaced with engine in place. Thanks Quote
Rijko Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 maybe ask on GSR, they have a lot of experience with that sort of things 1 Quote
wraith Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 Yes they can be changed without the engine coming out. Remove the swingarm and unbolt the shaft drive shaft, then as you've said use a screw to pull the old one out and then fit a new one. Check the inner sleeve the inner part of the seal sites on as the sleeves do seem to groove. I had one made up years ago. 3 Quote
Sparky62 Posted August 4, 2023 Author Posted August 4, 2023 Thank you @Wraith - this is exactly what I wanted to know. Quote
