Grimeric Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Got an old b6. It's not really worthy of oss but it gets me around whilst I collect parts for my gsx build. Its running okay but I think the carbs need a clean and maybe adjustment. When on isle it will slightly rev up and down a few hundred rpm, nothing major but enough. I've given it new plugs, oil and recently done the valve clearances so I'm happy they are okay. Move never touched carbs as they worry me. Does anyone have some sort of idiots guide step by step or point me in the right direction? cheers. Quote
vizman Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 carb blance, check all the rubber boots and clamps are done up, also check your throttle cable routing....... Quote
Grimeric Posted January 11, 2016 Author Posted January 11, 2016 The boots and clamps appear fine. I've checked the cable routing and that seems fine too. I've not balanced the carbs so will try that. Would you recommend balancing before anything bigger like cleaning? Quote
vizman Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 yeah, try all the easy cheap fixes first, it's usually something simple [or it's just I'm simple] if you've been using the bike regularly I doubt it'd be anything real bad.... Quote
Grimeric Posted January 11, 2016 Author Posted January 11, 2016 Cheers vizman. I was using it daily for a 70 mile commute up until I got my new van the other month and it ran well really. It's just annoying on tickover that's all. ....best get reading up on carb balancing then.. Quote
Pegleg Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 While its idling spray carb cleaner around the inlets. If idle increases noticeably you have an intake leak. 1 Quote
Grimeric Posted January 12, 2016 Author Posted January 12, 2016 Cheers Pegleg. I've done that today and it seems to stay the same so I'm guessing their is no leak on the intake. Quote
vizman Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 give your air filter a clean too...or replace it... Quote
Grimeric Posted January 12, 2016 Author Posted January 12, 2016 Done the air filter Vizman when I did the other bits. I'll have to balance them and see if that helps much. Quote
