Neil-IOM Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 Happy new year all been getting stuck into gsx1100 esd that ive had sat for a while. When stripping carbs found that the the rubber bungs that cover the pilot jets are missing. So simply do they matter ? Cheers Neil 2 Quote
TonyGee Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 not sure on this one ? my carbs have them so they must serve a purpose !!!! they are fitted at the factory. Quote
Neil-IOM Posted January 1, 2022 Author Posted January 1, 2022 yes, its a bit of a scratcher, my gs1000 cv carbs doesnt have them and it runs perfect, GS550 cv carbs has them and runs perfect, GS1100GL doesnt have them and runs good saying that they are all on standard airboxes and jetting. This 1100 ESD has been jetted up to 152 mains and has the air corrector jets fitted but before my time. Ive got it starting and running fairly well on a cobra 4-1 and open carbs but number two just seems a little cooler on the downpipe. Done the lead swap, plug changes between 2 and 3 with no difference, carbs been ultrasoniced and rebuilt with new o rings, Got them vacuum balanced ??bang on but its just not quite there. ?? Quote
cnap504 Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 Go to an online parts fiche with your specific year and model and have a look. I’d say they do make a difference, some of the Mikuni BST carbs that I have refurbished have had the plugs and others not, I would think there is a reason. Quote
Neil-IOM Posted January 1, 2022 Author Posted January 1, 2022 Yes, the relevant parts fiche does show them in place for these carbs on all the cv carbs from that time, gs1000, gsx1100et esd etc, suppose my next move is to get hold of some, shove them in and see what happens Quote
Neil-IOM Posted January 8, 2022 Author Posted January 8, 2022 well thanks to another set of carbs, gs850 i had at the back of the garage, ive robbed the pilot bungs, which i was suprised to see in there ans puit them in the 1100es and guess what, no bloody difference. Ive got a feeling im going to be looking for a set of replacement carbs that are known to be good .. 1 Quote
