  1. Gurls blouse superdram reg rec all the way, been using them on gs gsx for donkeys years withouit any problems, worth ditching the block connector for the three yellows from the genny and soldering them
  2. I ordered a carb rebuild kit from the same site, 5 months later and still not recieved anything, asked the question through there website email but no reply ????? take your chance. ive heard some people have had no problems with their stuff,,,,thats if you get it
  3. I get some bicycle inner tubes, split them and tape them around the frame tubes, anything bigger like pipe insulation just gets in the way and pisses you off. M preference is to get the rolling chassis built up on its wheels and just lift the lump in. Only ever takes another pair of hands. Ive never done the frame over the engine method even when i put my Z13 motor in, made a gsx1100 seem like a piece of piss.
  4. HI all, many years ago, and i mean many my first real project was a gs750 frame with a gs1000 motor, bored to 1100 with some yoshi cams and a set of 28mm slides. I pissed around like an 18 year old does and found a one piece K&N style filter in a breakers yard, no idea what make it was but it looked pretty cool at the time and i did the obligatory messing with jets etc for weeks on end with endless plug chops as you do . I finally found the sweet spot by wrapping about a third of the holes up with black electrical tape, test run plug chop, unwrap a bit more, same again and again until i got it spot on. That was the way when you earned a pittance and dyno's hadnt been invented, happy memories, gotta love the eighties home brewed spray job, my first ever, i remember rubbing off the mint red original paintwork off the ET tank cos i wanted it yellow, .....and 35 years later still havent shaken the suzuki
  5. I used PJ1 satin black in rattle cans on my gs1000 motor twenty years ago and have used nothing else since. ive had no flaking or lost paint in all those years but it has dulled a little . Good prep is the answer, got to be good and clean. I degreased and steam cleaned my complete lump thoroughly after carefully plugging all the obvious places. Outer cases were then removed and polished and refitted.
  6. Hi all, been offered a set of these but unsure what they are off, apparently were on a bandit 1200, any ideas thanks Set of 4 keihin cvk 46 carburettors. Taken from a working 1200 bandit but fits other models. Have been sat around for a few years..never going to get used by me..
  7. Ive done many split link cam chains, GS style are easy enough if your careful, just bee very anal about stuffing the cam chain tunnel so you dont drop anything small down there... i learnt the hard way and ended up having to split a motor to retrieve something. Also worth double checking youve got the correct cam chain, again i learnt the hard way built a motor up and only when putting the cams in it came to light that i had been supplied the correct pitch chain but wrong length... you live and learn......
  8. Unless im having a brain fart each coil has a separate 12v supply
  9. but he may not have a 12v supply to 3&4
  10. well thanks to another set of carbs, gs850 i had at the back of the garage, ive robbed the pilot bungs, which i was suprised to see in there ans puit them in the 1100es and guess what, no bloody difference. Ive got a feeling im going to be looking for a set of replacement carbs that are known to be good ..
  11. have you checked for 12v supply at the coils , ive more than once had broken wires in the harness?
  12. Hi folks, Its eaten nearly a gallon of fuel today on the bench. Carbs have been cleaned in the ultrasonic and all passageways are clear, float heights set to 23mm. Valve clearances checked and reset to 4 thou cold. Compression checks all give 130 psi give or take a nadgers with no significant improvement with a squirt of oil down the bore. Carbs balanced on the gauges pretty much bang on. Still running a little cooler on number two using the spitty finger test on the downpipe and it just doesnt respond to throttle as youd expect. Running open carbs at the moment with no filters, i do have a set on the way from SPS, and an open 4 into 1 exhaust Pilot air jet 160 Pilot jet 47.5 Main jet 152.5 Now before my time the carbs had the air corrector jets fitted in the back of the carbs. So the way im thinking is to go back to standard carb setup and give that a go, So HERE IS THE QUESTION, Can you just remove the corrector jets from the back of the carbs and return main jet back to standard size 112.5 and the pilot jet 45? I ve got the front half of the stadard airbox but would need to source the rear half. Many thanks
  13. Yes, the relevant parts fiche does show them in place for these carbs on all the cv carbs from that time, gs1000, gsx1100et esd etc, suppose my next move is to get hold of some, shove them in and see what happens
  14. yes, its a bit of a scratcher, my gs1000 cv carbs doesnt have them and it runs perfect, GS550 cv carbs has them and runs perfect, GS1100GL doesnt have them and runs good saying that they are all on standard airboxes and jetting. This 1100 ESD has been jetted up to 152 mains and has the air corrector jets fitted but before my time. Ive got it starting and running fairly well on a cobra 4-1 and open carbs but number two just seems a little cooler on the downpipe. Done the lead swap, plug changes between 2 and 3 with no difference, carbs been ultrasoniced and rebuilt with new o rings, Got them vacuum balanced ??bang on but its just not quite there. ??
