billball Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 Hi everyone, I'm new to the Suzuki world, I love this bike, It's a 1983 GS850GL and I just bought it last week end and as it was from out of town my friend rode it home for me. When we got back to my house he said the bike handled great and ran beautiful but the throttle was very hard to accelerate but returned very easy. I have a bad right hand that has no strength ( I also have a Goldwing which I ride with no problem) I tried the Suzuki and had a very hard time with the throttle. I need some help as I am an Automotive tech, I'm thinking it's the cable but why if it's hard to accel and the cable is seizing does it return to idle so fast. I have tried to lube the throttle itself but nothing changes, taking it around the block is a chore. Quote
Gixer1460 Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 Maybe a frayed cable - the broken strands catch on opening but don't on closing ? Also a badly routed cable could cause issues? Quote
Blubber Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 heavy / extra or extra heavy return springs on the carbs? as mentioned; cable routing helps big time, new cables too. Welcome to OSS btw Quote
BigT Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 Yeah, you should be able to operate the throttle with just thumb and finger Check the throttle tube also, might be coming apart Quote
