Tick... Tock... Tick... Tock...

Times running out, only a matter of days now till I finallly get to put the old GT through it's paces.

It aint pretty but It's a genuine certified race winner ( at least that's what the previous owner told me ) so If I don't come home clutching a trophy I can't blame the machinery.

It does'nt look much like it did when it left the factory, the previous owner did  a fair amount of work to make it run well off road- I have'nt laid a finger on it, I have'nt actually

seen it since I handed over the cash about 18 months ago. Since then it's been languishing in my mates barn so I hope it still runs.

I've never even started it up let alone ridden it but hopefully it'll be alright on the night- I never got round to replacing my stolen bike trailer & the Tranny van got sold for scrap to

a couple of  Gypos last year so we'll have to shove it in the boot of the Rover to get it up to Scunthorpe for Dirt Diggers 2  on June 15th. Any one else going? If not I'll send you a postcard,

Finally had an opportunity to get a proper look at the machine a couple of days ago-        Oh dear.

I did have dreams of going home after the event with a trophy or two but seriously having doubts now. I should be able to find a couple of hours spare for a little bit of fettling  but the complete strip & rebuild it  really deserves is gonna have to wait.

Whats the worst that could happen?

It was'nt looking good last week, the bike did start-      eventually

but one exhaust was smoking horrifically, it was miss firing, the clutch was dragging, the rear tyre was too

wide and dragging on the swingarm, rear wheel bearings were shot, we only had one footrest etc. etc.

That was just a week ago, since then most of the issues have been resolved and we're feeling hopeful, and fairly convinced it'll hold together for the races on Saturday

So a two metre square corner by the front door surrounded by rubble & dead projects does'nt make for an ideal workspace but the Motorcycle lift in the workshop is already blocked by yet another project so we just had to make the best of what we had and work on our knees on the cold concrete floor.

My mate worked his usual magic and cobbled together a footpeg, we spent an afternoon sorting the clutch, literally took an angle grinder to the rear tyre to shave off enough rubber so we could squeeze it into the swingarm, tweaked the carbs and decided to ignore the knackered wheel bearings

Well I think that went pretty well, here's the short version-

Buy cheap bike on face book then leave it in a dusty old barn for 18months or so  879083330_wp_20190612_15_06_21_pro(2).thumb.jpg.f3f094129aa8e1676c831efc7469c5d0.jpg

Shove it into the boot of an old Rover and drive to Scunthorpe  wp_20190614_19_33_50_pro.thumb.jpg.e9e9a921b80e6b516551b4289c128318.jpg

Go home clutching  a Gauche Glittery Day-glo trophy for a podium finish in one of the toughest classes :banana:wp_20190615_21_41_07_pro.thumb.jpg.56e6dd1cb6e88461fb461d072897a249.jpg

:tu  Cheers guys, I've been on a high for weeks- now we need to start properly prepping the bike for it's next outing.

It might still be summer but the clock's ticking, It'll soon be time for the sand-racing season at Mablethorpe and It will be the anniversary 50th season.

Would be really nice to bag a couple of those trophies so we're gonna have to make sure the bike is 100% and get some practice in- nothing can quite compare to the east coast on a Winters morning so we'll have to make do with a couple of flattrack sessions and hope for the best...
