Jpich85 Posted March 31, 2019 Posted March 31, 2019 I’m going to to running pod filters on this build if it ever gets finished so I wondering what to do about the cam cover breather? I’ve seen some people just stick a small filter on the end or run it to a catch can, I’m not sure if you can run it to the oil filler cap? As I’ve seen some bikes with a hose coming off this but not actually sure where it goes? Can you run the cam cover breather straight to the oil filler cap? Quote
Gixer1460 Posted March 31, 2019 Posted March 31, 2019 No you can't as that just forms a closed system! Any crankcase compression wouldn't vent so would lead to oil leaks and potential blown gaskets. Always take breathers to open air via a filter or a catch can as they will breath vapours / oil mist. Quote
wraith Posted March 31, 2019 Posted March 31, 2019 No, if you did the engine would not breath. You can ever put a small filter on the end of the can cover breather, but don't block it off or run it back to the engine. The pipe you see on some bike coming from the oil filler cap is a extra breather you can put on, some say it helps Quote
Jpich85 Posted March 31, 2019 Author Posted March 31, 2019 Cheers I thought that was the case with just never knew where that oil cap pipe went to so wondered if it was connected to there, think I’ll run a small filter Quote
